Abstract
This application is concerned with generating an aperiodoc Channel State Information (CSI) Reference Signal (RS) for UE-Initiated Beam management (IBM). A UE determines 3a whether an event has been triggered. The event may, for example, be a beam management event which triggers a measurement report. Optionally, the event may be deemed to have occurred if a received quality of a serving beam is less than a threshold value (e.g. Event-1). Based on the triggering event, the UE issues a request 4 for aperiodic CSI-RS (A-CSI-RS) to a network entity, such as a base station. The request may be included in a UE-IBM report for the triggered event. The UE receives the aperiodic CSI-RS 6 and provides a measurement report 8 to the network entity in response. This measurement report may be triggered by a second event, Event-2, on a beam of the A-CSI-RS. For example, Event-2 may be that the quality of a new beam exceeds that of a current beam by at least a threshold value.
