Abstract

A nuclear reactor core system 300 for a gas-cooled nuclear reactor, comprising a reflector structure 20; an active core region 10 positioned within the hollow of the reflector structure 20, the active core region 10 housing one or more prismatic blocks, and having one or more core gas coolant channels 8; and an outlet plenum 40 connected to an outlet end 24 of the reflector structure 20; the nuclear reactor core system 300 further comprising one or more plenum coolant channels 35, the one or more plenum coolant channels 35 being positioned exterior to the active core region 10, so as to provide a flow path for gas coolant to travel into the interior of the outlet plenum 40 without travelling through the active core region 10. Coolant passed through the one or more plenum coolant channels 35 may envelop the coolant from the active core region 10. [Figure 3]
