Description

[0001] The present invention relates to face rollers and body rollers.

[0002] Face rollers and body rollers are well known in cosmetic and clinical applications. They may be used to massage areas of the face and / or body and may also be used to enhance absorption of active ingredients. Such rollers include dermarollers, which have microneedles to permeate the skin.

[0003] It is desirable to keep face and body rollers clean and, particularly if they have microneedles, protect them from damage.

[0004] Preferred embodiments of the present invention aim to provide face rollers and body rollers that are improved in this respect.

[0005] For ease of reference, in the context of this specification, the term ‘roller’ is used to denote a ‘roller element’ mounted on a handle. The roller element may typically be of cylindrical or barrel shape, but may be of any shape that provides rolling.

[0006] According to one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a face and / or body roller comprising a handle and a roller element mounted on the handle, wherein the handle is foldable between open and closed positions and provided with housing parts such that, when the handle is closed, the housing parts cooperate to form a housing around the roller element, and when the handle is open, the roller element is exposed such that it may be rolled over the face or body, whilst the handle is held by a user.

[0007] Preferably, the handle comprises two portions that are of substantially equal length and hinged together, with said housing parts at a free end of one of the handle portions and the roller element mounted at a free end of the other of the handle portions.

[0008] Preferably, said housing parts are hinged to one another.

[0009] Preferably, each of said housing parts is semi-cylindrical.

[0010] The roller element may have a diameter in the range 0.5 to 5 cm.

[0011] The roller element may have a length in the range 0.5 to 4 cm.

[0012] The roller element may have a length in the range 2 to 12 cm.

[0013] The handle, when opened, may have a length in the range 5 to 20 cm.

[0014] The handle, when opened, may have a length in the range 10 to 25 cm.

[0015] The roller element may be a microneedle roller element.

[0016] The microneedle roller element may be adjustable to adjust the extent to which the microneedles project.

[0017] The roller element may be provided with LEDs for light therapy, electrical contacts for electro-therapy, electrical heaters, electrical coolers, electrical vibrators, temperature and / or other sensors, and / or communication elements.

[0024] The illustrated face roller 1 comprises a foldable handle 2, a roller element 4 and a housing 5.

[0025] The handle 2 comprises two housing portions 2a and 2b of substantially equal length that are connected by a hinge 3 such that the handle 2 can be folded between open and closed positions.

[0026] The housing 5 is mounted at a free end of the handle portion 2a. The housing 5 comprises two semi-cylindrical housing parts 5a and 5b that are hinged to one another.

[0027] The roller element 4 is mounted at a free end of the handle portion 2b.

[0028] In Figure 1, the handle 2 is shown in a mid-position between its open and closed positions. The housing parts 5a and 5b are shown in an open position, above the roller element 4.

[0031] The face roller 1 is used in the Figure 3 position, with the handle 2 open and the roller element 4 exposed. A user holds the roller 1 by the handle 2 and can apply the roller element 4 to the face, over which it can then be rolled.

[0032] In order to store or transport the face roller 1, the handle 2 is folded as illustrated in Figure 1 until the roller element 4 is contained within the housing 5 as illustrated in Figure 2. The face roller 1 can then be stored or transported with reduced risk of damage to the roller element 4, or to a user if the roller element 4 should be a dermaroller that comprises microneedles, for example. If a dermaroller that comprises microneedles, the roller element 4 may be adjustable to adjust the extent to which the microneedles project.

[0033] By way of example, the roller element 4 may have a diameter of around 2 cm and in the range 0.5 to 4 cm; and a length of around 2.5 cm and in the range 0.5 to 4 cm. The handle 2, when open, may have a length of around 10 cm and in the range 5 to 20 cm.

[0034] A roller element 4 of larger dimensions may be suitable for use in a body roller that may operate in much the same way as illustrated for the face roller 1. By way of example, such a larger roller element may have a diameter of around 2.5 cm and in the range 0.5 to 5 cm; and a length of around 5 cm and in the range 2 to 12 cm. The handle 2, when open, may have a length of around 15 cm and in the range 10 to 25 cm.

Claims

1. A face and / or body roller comprising a handle and a roller elementmounted on the handle, wherein the handle is foldable between open and closed positions and provided with housing parts such that, when the handle is closed, the housing parts cooperate to form a housing around the roller element, and when the handle is open, the roller element is exposed such that it may be rolled over the face or body, whilst the handle is held by a user.

A face and / or body roller according to claim 1, wherein the handlecomprises two portions that are of substantially equal length and hinged together, with said housing parts at a free end of one of the handle portions and the roller element mounted at a free end of the other of the handle portions.

3. A face and / or body roller according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said housingparts are hinged to one another.

4. A face and / or body roller according to claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein each ofsaid housing parts is semi-cylindrical.

5. A face and / or body roller according to any of the preceding claims,wherein the roller element has a diameter in the range 0.5 to 5 cm.

6. A face and / or body roller according to any of the preceding claims,wherein the roller element has a length in the range 0.5 to 4 cm.

7. A face and / or body roller according to any of claims 1 to 5, wherein theroller element has a length in the range 2 to 12 cm.

9. A face and / or body roller according to any of claims 1 to 7, wherein thehandle, when opened, has a length in the range 10 to 25 cm.

10. A face and / or body roller according to any of the preceding claims,wherein the roller element is a microneedle roller element.5 11. A face and / or body roller according to claim 10, wherein the microneedleroller element is adjustable to adjust the extent to which the microneedles project.

12. A face and / or body roller according to any of the preceding claims,provided with LEDs for light therapy, electrical contacts for electro-therapy,10 electrical heaters, electrical coolers, electrical vibrators, temperature and / or other sensors, and / or communication elements.
