Apparatus for indicating a characteristic

Abstract

An apparatus 1100 for detecting and then indicating a leak from a de-commissioned well on the sea bed, comprises a first indicator component 1102, and a mounting unit 1104 which holds the first indicator component 1102 in a first position. The first indicator component 1102 moves to a second position in response to the detection of a first characteristic such as the detection of chemical, or physical change in the environment. In doing so the indictor exhibit a visual change than can be views directly for via an ROV. In practice, the indicator may be held, against a biasing spring force, in a first position by a retaining portion. The retaining portion then releases the indicator upon chemically reacting in the presence of a pre-determined chemical. Figure 4 a and b
