Air filter arrangement for an internal combustion engine

Abstract

An air filter arrangement 12, for an internal combustion engine, comprising an airbox 20 having an interior volume 50, an air inlet conduit 26 that provides an inlet opening 34 to direct airflow into the interior volume along an airflow direction, an air outlet conduit, a filter member 40 that defines within the interior volume a dirty air chamber 52 in an upstream position and a clean air chamber 54 in a downstream position. The filter member has a three-dimensional structure having width, length, and depth directions. The filter member has at least a first filtering region 56 and a second filtering region 58. The first filtering region being thicker in the depth direction and the first filtering region is located so that air flowing through the inlet opening is incident upon an air-receiving surface 59 of the first filtering region. The filter may also have a main filter element 42 and prefilter elements 44, 46. [Figure 3]
