Method and apparatus for coding and decoding 3D gaussian splats

Abstract

For a three-dimensional dynamic scene, matching information is determined regarding matching between parameters’ value of Gaussians of a reference set of 3D Gaussians and Gaussians of another set of 3D Gaussians, and a bitstream of a representation of the 3D dynamic scene is generated, the bitstream including the matching information. The matching information may include a correspondence table between the reference set and the another set, the table being associated with at least one parameters of the 3D Gaussian and associating Gaussians of the reference set with Gaussians of the another set that have the same parameter value. In another aspect, a generated bitstream of a representation of a 3D scene includes encoded attribute parameters of 3D Gaussians, each encoded attribute being obtained according to an encoding method defined for an attribute parameter type or subset thereof, and an encoding information regarding the encoding methods used to encode the attributes.
