Abstract

An engine assembly comprising: a combustion chamber 110; a first aftertreatment unit 150 to receive exhaust gas from the combustion chamber, the first aftertreatment unit comprising an exhaust fluid mixing conduit to facilitate mixing of exhaust gas with an exhaust fluid; a second aftertreatment unit 160 to receive the exhaust gas mixed with exhaust fluid from the first aftertreatment unit, the second aftertreatment unit comprising a catalytic reduction unit; a bypass conduit 250, or exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) conduit, to receive a second portion of exhaust gas from the combustion chamber, and an outlet 254 to supply the second portion of exhaust gas to a bypass re-entry point upstream of the second aftertreatment unit; and a thermal transfer region 290 between the bypass conduit and the first aftertreatment unit. Thermal energy may therefore be provided from the bypass conduit to the first aftertreatment system via the thermal transfer region, increasing an efficiency of the first aftertreatment system.
