Automatic self-hoisted lightning protection system using masts

Abstract

This invention relates to a lightning protection system that uses self-hoisted masts to protect structures from lightning strikes. Said system includes a plurality of members (1, 2) that can be extended or retracted according to weather conditions without the need for human presence on site, via remote control and an appropriate lifting mechanism. Furthermore, it has the ability to be fully underground (within a well) for complete aesthetic concealment when use is not needed. It finds application in heritage sites, areas with high visitor traffic as well as in facilities (warehouses of armament and other flammable and potentially explosive materials) as well as in sensitive electronic equipment, where the requirement is to preserve coverage / concealment and reduce the targeting of the facilities.
