[0023] The communication method, communication apparatus, communication device, and readable storage medium provided by some embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings through some embodi- ments and application scenarios thereof.

[0024] As shown in FIG. 2. FIG. 2 is a flow chart of a communication method provided by some embodiments of the present disclosure. The method may be applied to or performed by the terminal. As shown in FIG. 2, the method may include the following operation.

[0025] In an operation 21, first information is reported by a terminal, the first information is configured to indicate a capability of the terminal to support uplink Protocol Data Unit (PDU) set handling.

[0026] Since the terminal is the core of the uplink PDU set handling, the uplink PDU set handling between the terminal and the base station may depend on the terminal to a great extent. Therefore, based on the capability of the terminal, reported by the terminal, to support the uplink PDU set handling, a corresponding network policy for the uplink PDU set handling may be generated by the net- work side. That is, QoS information of an uplink PDU set may be generated, thereby supporting the terminal to execute a QoS guarantee for the uplink PDU set, and executing QoS handling for the uplink PDU set.

[0027] The capability of the terminal to support the uplink PDU set handling may be understood as: the attribute of the terminal for supporting the uplink PDU set handling.

[0028] In some embodiments, the first information may explicitly or implicitly indicate the capability of the terminal to support the uplink PDU set handling. In a case where the first information explicitly indicates the capability of the terminal to support the uplink PDU set handling, the first information may be a newly-added field or may reuse an existing field.

[0029] In some embodiments, the first information may be sent or transmitted through a Session Management (SM) message during a PDU session establishment procedure or a PDU session update procedure. For ex- ample, the first information may be a newly-added field in the SM message or an existing field reused from the SM message.

[0030] In some embodiments, in addition to indicating the capability of the terminal to support the uplink PDU set handling, the first information may also indicate a type of the capability of terminal to support PDUset handling. For example, the first information may indicate that the term- inal supports PDU set importance, that is, the first infor- mation may indicate that the terminal supports judging the priority of data transmission based on the PDU set importance; and / or, the first information may also indicate that the terminals supports PDU set Integrated Handling Indication (PSIHI), that is, the first information may also indicate that the terminal supports judging whether to perform integrity protection on data messages or discar- d / omit data messages based on the indication of the PSIHI.

[0031] In some embodiments, the terminal may be configured with the capability of identifying a specific 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 55 5 7 EP 4 791 079 A1 8 QoS flow, and may perform the uplink PDU set handling for the specific QoS flow.

[0032] In some embodiments, after the terminal report- ing the capability of the terminal to support the uplink PDU set handling, the communication method may further include the following operations: receiving, by the terminal, Quality of Service (QoS) information of an uplink PDU set transmitted by a first network function, or receiving, by the terminal, the QoS information of the uplink PDU set transmitted by the first network function through a base station; and performing, by the terminal, the uplink PDU set handling.

[0033] It may be understood that the uplink PDU set handling may be performed by the terminal based on the received QoS information of the uplink PDU set. Perform- ing the uplink PDU set handling based on the received QoS information of the uplink PDU set may be under- stood as: the performing of the uplink PDU set handling being associated with the QoS information of the uplink PDU set, or the uplink PDU set handling being performed with reference to the QoS information of the uplink PDU set.

[0034] In some embodiments, the first network function may include, but is not limited to, the AMF, the SMF, or the like. The QoS information may be generated by a second network function (such as the PCF) and transmitted to the first network function.

[0035] The QoS information may include QoS para- meters, such as 5QI, PDU set importance, PDU Set Error Rate (PSER), PDU Set Delay Budget (PSDB), or the like.

[0036] Therefore, the QoS handling for the uplink PDU set may be performed by the terminal based on the received QoS information of the uplink PDU set.

[0037] In some embodiments, the QoS parameters of the uplink PDU set and indication information for perform- ing the uplink (UL) PDU set handling for a specific 5-tuple may be obtained from a core network by the terminal via a NAS message.

[0038] In some embodiments, the uplink PDU set handling may include at least one of the following: 1) based on a description of the 5QI and a Non-Access Stratum (NAS) indication of the core network, a specific uplink QoS flow may be mapped by the terminal to a Data Radio Bearer (DRB) for performing the PDU set handling; 2) based on the PDU set importance, priority of data transmission may be judged by the terminal, or mes- sages that need to be discarded or omitted may be identified by the terminal; 3) whether to perform integrity protection on data messages or discard / omit the data messages may be judged by the terminal based on the indication of the PSIHI; 4) messages that need to be scheduled rapidly may be identified by the terminal based on the received PSDB; and so on.

[0039] In some embodiments, the communication method may further include the following operations.

[0040] A first request may be transmitted by the term- inal to the first network function via the NAS message. The first request may be configured to request QoS information of the PDU set. Thus, the QoS information of the uplink PDU set may be requested and obtained by the terminal.

[0041] For example, before receiving the QoS informa- tion of the uplink PDU set transmitted by the first network function, or receiving the QoS information of the uplink PDU set transmitted by the first network function through the base station, the first request may be transmitted by the terminal to the first network function via the NAS message. After that, the first request may be forwarded or transmitted by the first network function to the second network function (such as the PCF). The first request may be configured to assist in generating the network policy for the uplink PDU set handling and / or the downlink PDU set handling.

[0042] In some embodiments of the present disclo- sure, the specific messages which belong to a same PDU set may be identified by the terminal based on protocol description, so as to perform the uplink PDU set handling. The protocol description may be obtained by the terminal directly from an application layer, a busi- ness layer, or the like, or may be obtained by the terminal from the core network, such as obtained from the core network via the NAS message.

[0043] In some embodiments, the communication method may further include at least one of the following operations. (1) The uplink PDU set handling may be performed by the terminal based on the QoS information of the uplink PDU set; where performing the uplink PDU set handling based on the QoS information of the uplink PDU set may be understood as: the performing the uplink PDU set handling being associated with the QoS information of the uplink PDU set, or the uplink PDU set handling being performed with reference to the QoS information of the uplink PDU set. (2) The uplink PDU set handling may be performed by the terminal based on the QoS information of the uplink PDU set and the protocol description. (3) The uplink PDU set handling may be performed by the terminal based on the protocol description.

[0044] The above operation (1) may be understood that, the uplink PDU set handling may be performed by the terminal based on the QoS information of the uplink PDU set only. The protocol description in the above operations (2) and (3) may be obtained by the terminal from at least one of the following: the terminal itself, the business layer, the application layer, and an upper layer. Combining with the protocol description, it is possible to facilitate the identification of a protocol type and service characteristics, thereby enabling the selection of an ap- propriate QoS guarantee to perform the uplink PDU set handling. 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 55 6 9 EP 4 791 079 A1 10

[0045] Based on the above operations (1) to (3), it may be concluded that the uplink PDU set handling may be performed by the terminal based on at least one of the obtained protocol description and the QoS information of the uplink PDU set.

[0046] For example, as shown in FIG. 3, when the QoS parameters of the uplink PDU set are obtained by the terminal UE from a Radio Access Network (RAN), the protocol description may also be obtained by the terminal UE from the upper layer of the terminal or the application layer, so as to perform the QoS handling for the uplink PDU set by combining the QoS parameters of the PDU set and the protocol description.

[0047] As shown in FIG. 4, FIG. 4 is a flow chart of another communication method provided by some em- bodiments of the present disclosure. The communication method may be applied to or performed by a second network function. The second network function may be the PCF or other network functions with the policy control function. As shown in FIG. 4, the method may include the following operations.

[0048] In an operation 41, the network policy for the uplink PDU set handling and / or the downlink PDU set handling may be generated by a second network func- tion, based on local configuration and / or the capability of the terminal, reported by the terminal, to support uplink PDU set handling.

[0049] In an operation 42, the network policy for the uplink PDU set handling and / or the downlink PDU set handling may be transmitted by the second network function.

[0050] In some embodiments, the network policy for the uplink PDU set handling and / or the downlink PDU set handling may be understood as: QoS information (such as QoS parameters) of the uplink PDU set and / or the downlink PDU set. The network policy for the uplink PDU set handling and / or the downlink PDU set handling may include a decision on which data stream to apply QoS handling to.

[0051] In some embodiments, the operation 42 may include at least one of the following. 1) The network policy for the uplink PDU set handling may be transmitted by the second network function to the terminal via or through the first network func- tion. 2) The network policy for the uplink PDU set handling may be transmitted by the second network function to the base station via or through the first network function, and the network policy for uplink PDU set handling may be forwarded or transmitted to the terminal by the base station.

[0052] In some embodiments, the first network function may include, but is not limited to, the AMF, the SMF or the like.

[0053] Therefore, the QoS handling for the uplink PDU set may be performed by the terminal based on the received network policy for the uplink PDU set handling, that is, based on the QoS information of the uplink PDU set.

[0054] In some embodiments, in response to learning that the terminal performing UL (uplink) PDU set hand- ling, the QoS parameters of the UL PDU set may be transmitted, by the second network function or the first network function, to the terminal via the NAS message.

[0055] In some embodiments, the communication method may further include the following operation.

[0056] Second information transmitted by a third net- work function may be received by the second network function, or the second information transmitted by the third network function may be received by the second network function through a Network Exposure Function (NEF). The second information may include at least one of the following: first indication information, configured to indicate performing the uplink PDU set handling and / or the downlink PDU set handling; flow description, e.g., QoS flow description; or the protocol description.

[0057] In this way, after receiving the second informa- tion, the network policy for the uplink PDU set handling and / or the downlink PDU set handling may be generated by the second network function (such as the PCF) with the assistance of the second information.

[0058] In some embodiments, the third network func- tion may be the Application Function (AF).

[0059] In some embodiments, the communication method may further include the operation as follow.

[0060] The first request transmitted by the terminal may be received by the second network function through the first network function. The first request may be con- figured to assist the second network function in generat- ing the network policy for the uplink PDU set handling and / or the downlink PDU set handling.

[0061] As shown in FIG. 5, FIG. 5 is a flow chart of another communication method provided by some em- bodiments of the present disclosure. The method may be applied to or performed by the third network function. The third network function may be the AF or another network function with the application function. As shown in FIG. 5, the method may include the following operation.

[0062] In an operation 51, second information may be transmitted by the third network function to the second network function.

[0063] In some embodiments, the second network function may be the PCF or other network functions with the policy control function. The second information may include at least one of the following: first indication information, configured to indicate performing the uplink PDU set handling and / or the downlink PDU set handling; flow description, e.g., QoS flow description; or 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 55 7 11 EP 4 791 079 A1 12 the protocol description.

[0064] Therefore, the network policy for the uplink PDU set handling and / or the downlink PDU set handling may be generated by the second network function (such as the PCF) with the assistance of the second information. After that, the network policy for the uplink PDU set handling may be transmitted to the terminal, so that QoS handling for the uplink PDU set may be performed by the terminal.

[0065] In some embodiments, the second information may be transmitted by the third network function (such as the AF) to the second network function (such as the PCF) through the NEF.

[0066] As shown in FIG. 6, FIG. 6 is a flow chart of another communication method provided by some em- bodiments of the present disclosure. The method may be applied to or performed by the base station. As shown in FIG. 6, the method may include the following operations.

[0067] In an operation 61, the QoS information of the uplink PDU set transmitted by the second network func- tion may be received by the base station.

[0068] In an operation 62, the QoS information of the uplink PDU set may be transmitted by the base station to the terminal.

[0069] Therefore, the QoS handling for the uplink PDU set may be performed by the terminal based on the received QoS information of the uplink PDU set.

[0070] In some embodiments, the second network function may be, but is not limited to, the PCF or other network functions with the policy control function.

[0071] In some embodiments, the QoS information may include the QoS parameters, such as the 5QI, a PDU Set Error Rate (PSER), a PDU Set Delay Budget (PSDB) or the like.

[0072] For example, the QoS information of the uplink PDU set may be obtained by the base station (such as a Next Generation RAN (NG-RAN)) from the core network and forwarded or transmitted to the terminal in the PDU session establishment or the modification procedure. Therefore, the base station may support the terminal to perform a specific QoS guarantee for the uplink PDU set.

[0073] The present disclosure will be described with reference to the following embodiments. Embodiment 1

[0074] In Embodiment 1, a capability of the UL PDU set handling may be negotiated during the PDU session establishment or modification procedure. As shown in FIG. 7, the procedure may include the operations as follow.

[0075] In an operation 1, the second information may be transmitted by the AF (or through the NEF) to the PCF. The second information may include at least one of the following: the first indication information, configured to indicate performing the uplink PDU set handling and / or the downlink PDU set handling; the flow description; or the protocol description. That is, the AF may indicate UL PDU set handling and / or the DL (downlink) PDU set handling, and provide the flow description and / or the protocol description.

[0076] In an operation 2, during the PDU session es- tablishment or the PDU session update procedure, a UE may report the capability, of the UE, of supporting the UL PDU set handling to the AMF. For example, the capability may be carried in a 5G SM capability.

[0077] In an operation 3, in some embodiments, the UE capability may be reported by the AMF to the PCF through the SMF.

[0078] In an operation 4, a corresponding network policy for the uplink PDU set handling and / or the downlink PDU set handling, i.e., the QoS information (such as QoS parameters) of the uplink PDU set and / or the downlink PDU set, may be generated by the PCF based on the information received from the AF, local configuration, and / or the UE capability.

[0079] In an operation 5, the QoS information of the uplink PDU set may be transmitted by the PCF to the UE through the AMF and the SMF, so that QoS handling for the uplink PDU set may be performed by the UE based on the received QoS information. Embodiment 2

[0080] In Embodiment 2, the UL PDU set handling capability may be negotiated during the PDU session establishment or the modification procedure, and the QoS information may be issued or delivered through the base station. As shown in FIG. 8, the procedure may include the operations as follow.

[0081] Operations 1‑4 may be the same as operations 1‑4 in Embodiment 1 above.

[0082] In an operation 5, the QoS information of the uplink PDU set may be transmitted by the PCF to the base station through the AMF and the SMF.

[0083] In an operation 6, the protocol description an- d / or the QoS information of the uplink PDU set may be obtained by the UE from the basestation, so as to perform the QoS handling for the uplink PDU set.
