Abstract

Strong esters have a primary application as fabric softeners. After fatty acids from beef tallow (Tallow) and fatty acids from palm oil, fatty acids from sustainable sources such as rice bran fatty acids (RBFA) are desired. RBFA are formed as a by-product during rice bran oil refining and are therefore present in the inedible portion of the oil. However, strong esters of RBFA are often susceptible to oxidation, leading to undesirable properties in the final product. The present invention relates to strong esters of rice bran fatty acids, where the rice bran fatty acids are at least partially hydrogenated rice bran fatty acids (HRBFA). This results in higher oxidative stability of the strong esters and therefore, higher overall acceptability of the final product.
