Abstract

This invention relates to the development of epoxy acrylate modified cellulose aerogel material for cationic dye adsorption applications, especially methylene blue, in the treatment of textile industrial wastewater. Cellulose aerogel is obtained from coconut fiber through a delignification process using an alkaline solution, bleaching with sodium chlorite and acetic acid, the addition of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and urea as reinforcing agents, and freeze-drying to produce a three-dimensional porous structure. Modification is carried out by coating epoxy acrylate resin on the surface of the aerogel to obtain a material with better mechanical stability and adsorption capacity. This modified material has a low density of 0.0500 - 0.1400 kg / m³, a pore diameter of 2,000 - 2,600 nm, a compressive strength of up to 26.7 kgf, and shows new absorption bands at 1722 cm»¹ and 840 cm»¹ as an indicator of successful modification.The adsorption test showed a capacity of up to 48,684 mg / g with a methylene blue removal efficiency of 97% at optimum conditions of pH 10, initial concentration of 200 ppm, contact time of 180 minutes, and temperature of 363 K. With these properties, this invention provides an alternative local biomass-based adsorbent that is environmentally friendly and effective for use in industrial wastewater treatment applications.
