BUILDING PROTECTION SYSTEM AGAINST EARTHQUAKES

Abstract

The earthquake protection system for buildings consists of: a trench equipped with wire gabions filled with split stones, where a partition is installed between the gabion and the trench wall and a covering layer is installed on top of the gabion. The trench is made around the building with a depth of 1-5 meters and a width of between 0.5-3 meters so as to isolate the building from earthquake vibrations. The wire gabion has a hole size of 2.5x2.5 cm to 10x10 cm so as to maintain the stability of the split stones inside. The partition has flexible properties so as to prevent soil from the trench wall from entering the wire gabion. The covering layer has flexible properties so as to prevent material above the gabion from entering the gabion and cannot transmit earthquake vibrations. The connecting road from the building to the outside that crosses the trench must be equipped with dilation so as to dampen earthquake vibrations.
