Formulation and Manufacturing Process of Prebiotic Supplements Based on Beta Glucan Extract of White Oyster Mushrooms and Inulin and the Products Produced

Abstract

This invention relates to the process of making a beta glucan prebiotic supplement made from white oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) combined with inulin. The purpose of this invention is to obtain a beta glucan and inulin-based prebiotic supplement. The beta glucan extract of white oyster mushrooms is obtained through an extraction process using the ultrasonication method and continued with extraction using hot water. The beta glucan extract obtained is then formulated with inulin at a certain ratio to obtain a supplement product based on beta glucan of white oyster mushrooms and inulin with a higher prebiotic index compared to the use of beta glucan extract alone. The formulation obtained is then tested for its prebiotic index using L. fermentum bacteria to evaluate the ability of the combination of beta-glucan and inulin to support the growth of prebiotic bacteria.The test results showed that the combination of beta-glucan and inulin at a certain ratio provided a higher prebiotic index value than the use of beta-glucan alone, namely 0.8579±0.0097.
