Abstract

The present disclosure relates to autonomous operating technology for rail vehicles, and provides an obstacle detection apparatus and method, the obstacle detection apparatus using multiple camera sensors comprising: a receiver configured to receive two or more pieces of image information each generated simultaneously from the two or more camera sensors; an image integrator configured to convert the two or more pieces of image information into a single integrated image; a desired region adjuster configured to adjust a desired region on the integrated image using position information and operation control information of the rail vehicle; and an obstacle detector configured to detect obstacles in the desired region.
