Abstract
Mahkota dewa fruit (Phaleria macrocarpa) is a native Indonesian plant that grows in the tropical regions of Papua Island. Active compounds in Mahkota dewa fruit that are reported to have anticancer activity include phalerin, gallic acid, β-sitosterol, stigmasterol, quercetin, myricetin, and kaempferol. The extraction and fractionation process is one of the purification stages to obtain active fractions. Several fractions from the ethanol extract of Mahkota fruit leaves were tested for breast cancer cell (MCF-7) inhibition. The hexane fraction was obtained as the most active in inhibiting MCF-7 cells. A synergistic combination test of the hexane fraction with doxorubicin, which has been used as a breast cancer drug. The results of the mechanism test showed better inhibitory activity than the use of doxorubicin alone. This invention can be an alternative in breast cancer treatment, especially as an alternative to reduce side effects and resistance to doxorubicin single therapy.
