Abstract

This invention relates to a galvanic corrosion testing apparatus and method. More specifically, the galvanic corrosion testing apparatus and method utilizes a salt bridge-based two-chamber electrochemical cell to measure the resistance of a material, particularly a metal-based or conductive material, without the need for a resin holder or solder contact, allowing for further characterization without damaging the material being tested. The apparatus comprises an electrolyte media container (203) with a small hole at the bottom as a specimen immersion area, equipped with a rubber seal (209) to prevent leakage, a specimen lock (202) made of conductive material (copper, aluminum, or the like) which also serves as an electrical contact for the working electrode (14), and a container cover (203) with holes for a reference electrode (204) and a retaining electrode (205).The test method includes: preparing the specimen and electrolyte, placing the specimen in the hole of the inverted container with a rubber seal, locking the specimen with a lock using a screwdriver, turning the container to its normal position, pouring the electrolyte, closing the container, installing the reference electrode and holder, connecting all electrodes to the potentiostat, ensuring good connections, and then running the test according to the specified type and parameters.
