Abstract
Alkyl ester derivatives of gallic acid have shown cytotoxicity against various breast cancer cells. This study aims to synthesize octyl gallate nanoparticles and evaluate their anticancer activity against MCF-7 breast cancer cells in vitro. The yield, size, and morphology of the synthesized octyl gallate nanoparticles were analyzed by UV-Vis Spectroscopy, Particle Size Analyzer (PSA), and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). Octyl gallate nanoparticles were successfully synthesized with a yield of 96%, using the ionic gelation method with chitosan-alginate polymer as a nanocarrier. The characterization results showed that the octyl gallate nanoparticles were spherical in shape with sizes ranging from 100 to 200 nm, and showed high stability with a zeta potential value of -41.5 mV.Octyl gallate nanoparticles have a median inhibitory concentration (IC50) value of 3.05 µg / mL against MCF-7 breast cancer cells, which shows strong anticancer activity and has the potential to be developed as a new drug candidate for breast cancer treatment therapy.
