Abstract

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is an acute inflammatory condition in the lungs that can cause suboptimal gas exchange. Green tea (Camellia sinensis L.) contains polyphenols that can act as apoptosis inhibitors of cells experiencing inflammation. This study aims to determine the apoptotic activity in rat lung L2 cells with green tea extract treatment. In this study, L2 cells were induced by LPS to mimic the inflammation that occurs in ARDS. Apoptotic L2 cells were measured using flow cytometry. The results showed that green tea extract treatment can reduce inflammation by suppressing apoptosis in LPS-induced L2 cells. From this invention, it is known that green tea extract is able to reduce apoptotic activity in LPS-induced L2 cells as a model of ARDS.
