Abstract

This invention relates to a monoclonal antibody from mice that is specific to the Viral Protein 1 (VP1) protein of the Indonesian strain of foot and mouth disease (FMD) virus type O, which causes foot and mouth disease, and its use. The monoclonal antibody of this invention was prepared by immunizing experimental animals with recombinant VP1 protein expressed in Escherichia coli bacterial cells. The recombinant VP1 protein was shown to trigger a humoral immune response in immunized mice. The monoclonal antibody produced from a hybridoma fusion between splenocyte cells from mice and myeloma tumor cells successfully detected the FMD virus type O antigen and recombinant VP1 protein in both western blot and ELISA tests.The monoclonal antibody of this invention can be produced and used as raw material for specific detection kits against FMD virus, especially for ELISA detection platforms and lateral flow assay (LFA) rapid detection tests so that it can be used in the evaluation of foot and mouth disease infections in livestock.
