Abstract

This technology relates to an apparatus and method for controlling a railway vehicle, which receives sensing information through a railway vehicle sensor in a self-driving situation, determines whether a TLC (Torpedo Ladle Car) is present using a TLC detection algorithm based on the sensing information, calculates the distance to the TLC using a distance measurement algorithm based on the sensing information, determines the connection state of the TLC connector using a connector recognition algorithm based on the sensing information, and controls the speed of the railway vehicle using three factors namely whether a TLC is present, the distance to the TLC, and the connection state of the TLC connector.
