Abstract
This invention describes a process for making dissolving microneedles from pomegranate peel extract consisting of a. mold making, b. base making, c. printing, and d. drying. The mold was designed using SketchUp software and printed using a 3D printer (Photon Mono 4) with specifications of 1500 μm needle depth, 350 μm diameter, and 500 μm needle spacing. The base was made from a mixture of PVA, PVP, glycerin, and pomegranate peel extract, then poured into the mold and centrifuged at 3500 rpm for 10 minutes to ensure optimal filling. Drying was carried out in a desiccator for 6 days. Characterization included organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, needle morphology, average weight, folding power, and moisture content. The results showed a square-shaped patch, brown in color, homogeneous without lumps, with a pH of 5.21–5.65 (according to skin pH), a pointed needle tip, an average weight of 104–131 mg, a folding power of >350X, and a water content of 5.65–7.85%.Overall, this method is practical and efficient and produces microneedles with characteristics that meet the requirements, so it has potential as a delivery system for herbal compounds through the skin.
