Abstract
This invention concerns a method for detecting contamination of Rat (Rattus sp.) meat in processed meat products using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. This invention has successfully found a specific primer pair ND5_1 namely FoRspND5-1 (5'ATCGCAGCCACAGGAAAATC3') and ReRspND5_1 (5'TGTCGTTTTGAGTGAGTGCG3') taken from the mitochondrial ND5 gene sequence of rats (Rattus sp.) and is able to amplify the DNA fragment of the gene in the range of 200 bp. The primer pair was proven effective in detecting contamination of Javanese wild boar (Sus verrucosus) meat in beef meatball samples using the conventional PCR method with a detection limit of up to 500 fg / μL.
