AI Technical Summary
Sandwich wall infills face challenges in maintaining structural integrity and load-carrying capacity due to openings, which compromise their resistance to temperature changes, external effects, and internal chemical and physical influences, while also requiring efficient insulation and reduced self-weight for cost-effectiveness.
A sandwich wall panel composed of a layered system of concrete, Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) insulation core, and steel reinforcement on either side, with strategically placed openings to enhance structural performance and reduce self-weight.
The solution provides improved load-carrying capacity, reduced energy consumption through better insulation, and faster installation with fewer joints, while maintaining resistance to temperature, chemical, and physical effects, making it a cost-effective alternative to traditional wall materials.
Abstract
Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTIONThe invention relates to wall structures, particularly to wall structures that act as resistant to temperature changes, harmful rays and external effects, more particularly to sandwich wall infilled framed structures.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONA sandwich wall infills are layered structural system made of a less density thermal insulated core material i.e., Expanded Polystyrene bonded together by concrete layers with steel reinforced on either side to act monolithically. Outer sheet of the sandwich panel should be resistant to temperature changes, harmful rays and external effects. The inner sheet should be resistant to chemical and physical effects as well as condensation, which may result from the inner atmosphere of the building. Openings are required to be provided in the sandwich wall panel for functional requirements of the structures. These openings are essential in order to design the building for space efficiency and reuse for long-term conditions. Openings are source of weakness and depending on their size and orientation, openings influence adversely the load carrying capacity and stiffness of the member. The presence of openings in a wall considerably reduces its ultimate load capacity relative to the equivalent solid wall.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONTo meet the objects of the invention a sandwich wall panel cast by a layered system consisting of concretelayer, light weight material and concrete layer bonded together by steel reinforcement on either side is disclosed.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGSFig. 1. Shows Framed Structure with sandwich wall infill. Fig. 2. Cross Section of sandwich wall infillDETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTIONA sandwich wall panel is cast by a layered system of concrete layer + EPS + concrete layer bonded together by steel reinforcement on either side.A wall is provided with opening and infilled in framed structure & tested to evaluate its structural performance in the context of ultimate strength capacity, load-deflection profiles, load-strain relationships, strain variation across the entire thickness of the panel, vertical displacement, cracking patterns, and failure modalities. Standard provisions are arrived by conducting the experiment by varying the thickness of insulation material, percentage of steel reinforcement, and also the location & orientation of openings. It is found to be a perfect replacement of brick, solid, concrete, hollow block walls in terms of its reduced self-weight, less joints, easy and fast installation, better insulation properties and more economical. In conventional construction, self-weight of structure itself represents a very large proportion of the totalload on the structures thus, reduction in the self-weight of the structures through sandwich wall panels will reduce overall cost of the project. Wall panels with best core insulation material reduces the energy spent in winter for warming and in summer for cooling; and taking measures to prevent heat transmission with the objective to live in comfortable environments. Sandwich panel also ensures the acoustic insulation, water tightness and fire resistance. It also gives another advantage of speedy installation with few joints therefore construction will be done in short span of period. Fixing the openings free from cracks so that buildings can be designed with windows and doors wherever required.
