[0001] The present disclosure relates to an application management system, and more specifically to a method and electronic device for generating a dynamic icon. The present application is based on, and claims priority from an Indian Application Number 201841025727 filed on 10th July, 2018, the disclosure of which is hereby incorporated by reference herein.BACKGROUND
[0002] An icon in an electronic device (e.g. smartphone, smart watch, laptop, etc.) indicates an application (e.g. a call application, an instant messenger application, a calculator application etc.) to a user. The icon is always static in nature, where the electronic device renders the icon as the icon designed by a designer of the application. However, the electronic device generates a badge on the icon (i.e. static icon) using the existing methods as shown in notation (a) of the FIG. 4, in response to receiving notifications related to the application. The badge indicates a number of notifications related to the application received by the electronic device. However, indicating a meaningful representation of an additional information in the notifications such as a person who comments to a photo shared by the user in a social networking application, a completion status of a payment transaction, a discount offered by a bus booking application for booking a bus ticket, a missed call of a person etc. on the icon, improves a user experience in understanding the additional information without opening the application.
[0001] Existing systems allow the user to use an opened application option in the electronic device to know about an opened / unopened application in the electronic device. However, a meaningful representation on the icon indicates an opened / unopened state of the application, improves a user experience in knowing the opened / unopened application in the electronic device.

[0003] The principal object of the embodiments herein is to provide a method and electronic device for generating a dynamic icon.

[0010] Accordingly the embodiments herein provide a method for generating a dynamic icon in an electronic device. The method includes recognizing, by the electronic device (100), a static icon of at least one application. Further, the method includes detecting, by the electronic device, at least one event associated with the application in the electronic device. Further, the method includes determining, by the electronic device, a status of the at least one event associated with the application. Further, the method includes generating, by the electronic device, the dynamic icon corresponding to the application by converting the static icon of the application based on the status of the at least one event, where the dynamic icon includes at least one actionable indicia displaying a preview of the status of the at least one event. Further, the method includes displaying, by the electronic device, the dynamic icon on a display of the electronic device.

The memory includes at least one application. The dynamic icon engine is configured to recognize a static icon of at least one application. Further, the dynamic icon engine is configured to detect at least one event associated with the application in the electronic device. Further, the dynamic icon engine is configured to determine a status of the at least one event associated with the application. Further, the dynamic icon engine is configured to generate the dynamic icon corresponding to the application by converting the static icon of the application based on the status of the at least one event, where the dynamic icon includes at least one actionable indicia displaying a preview of the status of the at least one event. Further, the dynamic icon engine is configured to cause to display the dynamic icon on the display of the electronic device.

The method includes recognizing, by the electronic device (100), a static icon of at least one application. Further, the method includes detecting, by the electronic device, at least one event associated with the application in the electronic device. [0032] Unlike existing methods and systems, the electronic device dynamically varies a size of the static icon or a dynamic icon of the application based on a type of the event, the status of the event and a priority of the event. In an example, the type of the event is a missed call notification associated with the call application received by the electronic device, a weather update performed by the electronic device etc. In an example, the status of the event is a progress of a video playback, a completion status of a financial transaction, etc. In an example, priority of the event determines based on the number of times the application opens by the user, a time duration for which the application is user etc. Therefore, the user can identify a preferred application from a set of applications in the electronic device based on the size variation, which improves a user experience in identifying the preferred application of the user.
[0033] The actionable indicia in the dynamic icon is used to display the preview of the status of the event such as a progress in a video playback, the completion status of a financial transaction, etc. to the user. Therefore, the user can understand the status of the event associated with the application by seeing the dynamic icon, without opening the application. Therefore, the proposed method improves a visual experience of the user in seeing the status of the event associated with the application.
[0034] The electronic device embeds a transparent background in the static icon to display a preview of the status of the event. In an example, the transparent background is a transparent image of a last played frame in a video, a transparent image of the financial transaction associated with the payment application, etc. Therefore, the user can identify the application as an opened application in response to seeing the preview of the status of the event. Further, the user can identify the application as an unopened application in response to not seeing the preview of the status of the event. Therefore, the proposed method improves the user experience in identifying the opened and unopened applications.

Examples for the electronic device (100) are, but not limited to a smart phone, a tablet computer, a personal computer, a desktop computer, a personal digital assistance (PDA), a multimedia device, a smart wearable device (e.g. smart watch, a smart glass, etc.) and the like. In an embodiment, the electronic device (100) includes a dynamic icon engine (110), a processor (120), a memory (130), a display (140), at least one application (150a-150n) (hereafter label of the application (150)) and a communicator (160). The dynamic icon engine (110) and the display (140) are coupled to the processor (120) and the memory (130).
[0037] Examples for the application (150) are, but not limited to a calculator application, a game application, a call application, a messenger, a cab application, a bus application, a browser application, a pizza application, a payment application, a music application, a fitness application, a social networking application, a video application, etc. as shown in notation (a) of FIG. 4. The memory (130) stores a static icon of the plurality of application (150a-150n). The dynamic icon engine (110) is configured to recognize the static icon of the application (150). The dynamic icon engine (110) is configured to detect an event associated with the application (150). In an embodiment, the event associated with the application (150) is at least one of a notification associated with the application (150) received by the electronic device (100), an update associated with the application (150) performed by the electronic device (100) and a current usage of application by the user. Examples for the notification associated with the application (150) are, but not limited to a message notification associated with the messenger application received by the electronic device (100), a missed call notification associated with the call application, a notification about a comment of a person in the social networking application, a notification of a discount offer available for buying the pizza associated with the pizza application, a remainder notification of a journey, where the journey is booked with the bus application, etc. Examples for the update associated with the application (150) are, but not limited to a location update, a time update, a weather update, an air quality update, an update of a progress of playback associated with the video application, an update of a completion status of a financial transaction associated with the payment application etc.

Examples for the status of the event are but not limited to the completion status of the financial transaction, a progress of a file download, a delivery status of a sent message, a progress of the video playback, a completion status of a pizza order etc. Further, the dynamic icon engine (110) is configured to generate the dynamic icon corresponding to the application (150) by converting the static icon of the application (150) to the dynamic icon based on the status of the at least one event. The dynamic icon includes at least one actionable indicia displaying a preview of the status of the at least one event. In an embodiment, the preview includes displaying additional information about the status of the application (150). Example for the additional information is, but not limited to a time / date / boarding-location / vehicle-identification-number of the journey, name and contact number of a bus driver, a name / brief details of an object (e.g. a car, a tree etc.) displaying in the preview, etc.

An example for the image corresponding to the status of the event is an image of a user interface of the application (150). An example for the annotation describing the status is a badge includes the thumbnail of the video. An example for the audio indicating the status of the event is a low pitch (e.g. 90 Hertz) ringtone, a medium pitch (e.g. 400 Hertz) ringtone, a high pitch (e.g. 1000 Hertz) ringtone etc. An example for the video indicating the status of the event is a video clip plays in low frame rate (5 frames per second (FPS)), a video clip plays in normal frame rate (24 FPS), a video clip plays in high frame rate (500 FPS). An example for the graphics indicating the status of the event is an animated image of a plant, where the animation changes from a bud stage of the plant to a tree.

A method for generating a dynamic icon in an electronic device (100), comprises: recognizing, by the electronic device (100), a static icon of at least one application (150a-150n); detecting, by the electronic device (100), at least one event associated with the application (150a) in the electronic device (100); determining, by the electronic device (100), a status of the at least one event associated with the application (150a); generating, by the electronic device (100), the dynamic icon corresponding to the application (150a) by converting a static icon of the application (150a) based on the status of the at least one event, wherein the dynamic icon comprises at least one actionable indicia displaying a preview of the status of the at least one event; and displaying, by the electronic device (100), the dynamic icon on the display (140) of the electronic device (100).
2. The method of claim 1, further comprises: detecting, by the electronic device (100), a gesture performing on content of the event displayed in the preview of the at least one actionable indicia; and automatically navigating, by the electronic device (100), from the preview to a page of the application (150a) displaying the content of the event.
3. The method of claim 1, wherein the preview displays additional information about the status of the application (150a).
4. The method of claim 1, wherein the dynamic icon is displayed at a place at which the static icon is displayed in the electronic device (100).

The method of claim 1, wherein the actionable indicia includes at least one of an image corresponding the status of the at least one event, an annotation describing the status of the at least one event, an audio indicating the status of the at least one event, a video indicating the status of the event, and a graphics indicating the status of the event.

The method of claim 1, wherein converting the static icon of the application (150a) based on the status of the at least one event comprises: determining the actionable indicia based on the status of the event; and transforming the static icon of the application (150a) by at least one of: embedding a transparent background in the static icon to display the preview of the status of the event; forming a unique graphic element around the static icon or forming a unique graphic element on the portion of the static icon to display the preview of the status of the event; and changing a shape of the static icon to display the preview of the status of the event.
7. The method of claim 1, wherein the event is at least one of a past event, a current event and a future event.
8. The method of claim 1, wherein a size of the dynamic icon is changed based on at least one of a type of the event, the status of the event and a priority of the event.
9. An electronic device (100) for generating a dynamic icon, comprises: a processor (120); a memory (130) comprises at least one application (150); a display (140), coupled to the processor (120) and the memory (130); a dynamic icon engine 110, coupled to the processor (120) and the memory (130), configured to: recognize a static icon of at least one application (150a-150n); detect at least one event associated with the application (150a) in the electronic device (100); determine a status of the at least one event associated with the application (150a); generate the dynamic icon corresponding to the application (150a) by converting a static icon of the application (150a) based on the status of the at least one event, wherein the dynamic icon comprises at least one actionable indicia displaying a preview of the status of the at least one event; and cause to display the dynamic icon on the display (140) of the electronic device (100).

The electronic device (100) of claim 9, wherein the dynamic icon engine 110 is configured to: detect a gesture performing on content of the event displayed in the preview of the at least one actionable indicia; and automatically navigate from the preview to a page of the application (150a) displaying the content of the event.
11. The electronic device (100) of claim 9, wherein the preview displays additional information about the status of the application (150a).
12. The electronic device (100) of claim 9, wherein the dynamic icon is displayed at a place at which the static icon is displayed in the electronic device (100).

The electronic device (100) of claim 9, wherein the actionable indicia includes at least one of an image corresponding the status of the at least one event, an annotation describing the status of the at least one event, an audio indicating the status of the at least one event, a video indicating the status of the event, and a graphics indicating the status of the event.

The electronic device (100) of claim 9, wherein convert the static icon of the application (150a) based on the status of the at least one event comprises: determine the actionable indicia based on the status of the event; and transform the static icon of the application (150a) by at least one of: embed a transparent background in the static icon to display the preview of the status of the event; form a unique graphic element around the static icon or form a unique graphic element on the portion of the static icon to display the preview of the status of the event; and change a shape of the static icon to display the preview of the status of the event.
