Abstract

A laboratory device was designed and manufactured to generate waves at different heights and wavelengths. The wave generator is made from locally available and relatively inexpensive materials. Because the wave generator is modifiable, the type and shape of the wave emitted within the hydraulic channel can be determined. The wave generator consists of a waveform, and the shape and method of wave emission can be modified as needed. Since the device is controlled by a variable-frequency electronic controller, the speed and wavelength can also be adjusted according to the different heights and wavelengths to simulate real-world measurements. The depth of the wave generator shape can also be varied to determine the height of the generated wave within the hydraulic channel. Due to its external design, the wave generator can be used independently of the hydraulic channel roof. Furthermore, because the wave generation motion is vertical, the wave generator shape does not intersect with the flow lines, unlike other conventional wave generators.
