AI Technical Summary
Existing road vehicles experience high aerodynamic losses and low efficiency due to oversized radiators at high speeds, leading to inefficient cooling and increased drag.
A road vehicle design featuring stackable radiators that adjust position based on speed, minimizing aerodynamic loss at high speeds and maximizing cooling at low speeds through a movable radiator system with actuating devices and hydraulic circuits.
Enhances aerodynamic efficiency at high speeds while ensuring effective cooling at low speeds by optimizing radiator positioning.
Description
DESCRIPTION “ROAD VEHICLE WITH STACKABLE RADIATORS” * * * The present invention relates to a vehicle road. In particular, the present invention relates to a road vehicle comprising a supporting frame; a passenger compartment; an external body; a system of propulsion to control the movement of the road vehicle; and a pneumatic duct, which opens to the outside through the external bodywork, and is housed in its own inside a cooling unit. The pneumatic duct is mounted at an anterior area, a posterior area, and / or a posterior area side of the external bodywork, and the unit of cooling is normally used in the system propulsion system cooling and / or in the passenger compartment air conditioning system using the flow of air that hits the road vehicle during the gear. The cooling unit comprises at least one radiator mounted inside the pneumatic duct transversely to a direction of flow advance of air along the pneumatic duct itself. The radiator has an exchange surface designed and sized to ensure correct cooling when the road vehicle is moved forward from the propulsion system with a forward speed relatively small. Known road vehicles of the type described above they present some drawbacks mainly descending from the fact that, when the road vehicle is advanced from the propulsion system with a forward speed relatively high, the exchange surface of the radiator is oversized, it causes a leak relatively high aerodynamics, and therefore has a relatively low aerodynamic efficiency. The purpose of the present invention is to provide a road vehicle that is free from the above drawbacks exposed and that is simple and economical to make. According to the present invention, a road vehicle as claimed in the claims attached. The present invention will now be described with reference to the attached drawings, which illustrate a non-limiting implementation example, where: Figure 1 is a schematic perspective view, with parts removed for clarity, of a preferred form of implementation of the road vehicle of the present invention; Figure 2 is a schematic plan view, with parts removed for clarity, of a particular of the road vehicle of figure 1; and Figures 3 and 4 are two perspective views schematic, with parts removed for clarity, of a detail of figure 2 illustrated in two different operational positions. With reference to figure 1, 1 indicates, in the its complex, a road vehicle comprising a chassis 2 supporting defining at least part of a floor 3 lower part of the vehicle 1; a passenger compartment 4 protruding towards the top from the floor 3; an external body 5 of the vehicle 1; and a motor 6 propulsion unit housed in the in this case, in a front compartment 7 of the vehicle 1 itself. As illustrated in figures 2, 3, and 4, the vehicle 1 is equipped with a pneumatic duct 8, which extends through compartment 7, has a shape longitudinally open tubular, it also features a cross-section of substantially rectangular shape, and opens outwards through the bodywork 5 for receive the flow of air that hits the incoming vehicle 1 while driving. Conduit 8 comprises an inlet section 9, a output section 10, and a coupling section 11 annular shape, which connects sections 9 and 10, and has a cross-section larger than a section transversal of sections 9 and 10 themselves. Vehicle 1 is also equipped with a unit 12 of cooling housed inside section 11 of the duct 8 to cool, in this case, engine 6. Unit 12 includes, in this case, two radiators 13, 14 presenting respective exchange surfaces 15, 16 substantially rectangular and perpendicular to a direction 17 of air flow advancement along the duct 8, and a pair of straight guides 18, which they extend in a direction 19 transverse to the direction 17, and are fixed one to an upper internal face and the other to a lower internal face of section 11. The radiator 13 is fixed inside the duct 8, and the radiator 14 is provided with two coupled pads 20 slidingly to the guides 18 to allow the radiator 14 to move, relative to radiator 13, in the direction 19 between a first operating position (figure 3), in which the radiators 13, 14 are substantially overlapped between them and unit 12 presents an exchange surface minimum substantially equal to the surface 15, 16 of exchange of a radiator 13, 14, and a second position operational (figure 4), in which the radiators 13, 14 are substantially staggered from each other and unit 12 has a maximum exchange surface substantially equal to the sum of areas 15, 16. The radiator 14 is movable between the first position operational and the second operational position under the push of an actuating device 21. Device 21 comprises, in this case, two 22 parallel racks fixed along one edge top and along a lower edge of the radiator 13 parallel to the direction 19; and an electric motor 23 fixed to the radiator 14 and featuring a shaft 24 of exit, which extends in one direction 25 substantially orthogonal to directions 17, 19, and is equipped with two 26 toothed wheels mounted at the ends free of the shaft 24 and coupled with the racks 22. Unit 12 also includes a circuit 27 hydraulic to supply a coolant through radiators 13, 14. Circuit 27 includes, for each radiator 13, 14, a respective input manifold 28 and a respective 29 outlet manifold mounted on the radiator 13, 14 parallel to direction 19, and includes, furthermore, a first flexible conduit 30 to connect between their collectors 28 and a second flexible duct 31 to connect the collectors 29 together. Obviously, according to variants not illustrated, the 8 pneumatic duct is mounted in a rear compartment or in a side compartment of the vehicle 1. The 12 cooling unit has some advantages mainly descending from the fact that: when vehicle 1 is advanced by engine 6 engine with a relatively high forward speed high, radiators 13, 14 are moved to their first operational position and unit 12 presents the minimum exchange surface to ensure a relatively small aerodynamic loss and, therefore, a relatively high aerodynamic efficiency; and when vehicle 1 is advanced by engine 6 engine with a relatively high forward speed reduced, radiators 13, 14 are moved to their second operating position and unit 12 features the maximum exchange surface to ensure a correct cooling of the engine 6 itself.
