MATEC Srl, based in Scandicci (Florence) DESCRIPTION The present invention relates to a process for making the last row of a knitted article run-proof. As is well known, knitted products made with traditional knitting or hosiery machines must be stitched or re-stitched at the end of production to prevent the last row of stitches from unraveling, which would also affect the previous rows. The sewing or linking operation, following the production of knitted products, has a considerable impact on the production costs of such products. In some cases, such as when sewing the toe of socks that are worked starting from the edge or cuff of the leg, this stitching is also necessary to complete the product, but, in many cases, the sewing or linking operations have the sole purpose of making the product run-proof. The main aim of the present invention is to solve the above-mentioned problem by creating a process that makes the last row of a knitted article run-proof, thus avoiding the need to proceed with subsequent sewing or linking operations. Another aim of the invention is to create a process that allows obtaining an article with the terminal area of ​​the knitting performed in an aesthetically acceptable manner. This task, as well as these and other purposes which will become clearer later, are achieved by a process for making the last row of a knitted product warp-proof, characterised by the fact that, in the execution of the last row of the product, the inter-knit portions, or the portions of yarn or yarns which join two adjacent loops of knitting, are made with an increased length forming additional loops alternating with the loops of the last row of knitting. According to a particularly advantageous aspect of the invention, each of the loops of the last row is therefore preferably knitted with an additional adjacent knitting loop. With particular reference to figures 1 and 2, the method according to the invention substantially consists in making the last knitting row 1 of a manufactured article by performing the intermediate knitting portions, i.e. the portions of thread or threads, used in the making of the last knitting row 1, which join two adjacent knitting loops 2, with an increased length in such a way as to form additional loops 2a which alternate with the loops 2 of the last knitting row 1. This increased length can be obtained, for example, when making a tubular product using a circular knitting or hosiery machine with a needle cylinder and dial, using the hooks placed in the dial which, positioned between the needles of the needle cylinder, create a raised support surface for the interstitch portions, as will be better seen later. A similar effect can be achieved by knitting the penultimate row of stitch 3 with loops that are shorter than the loops of the last row of stitches. This effect is easily achieved by varying the stitch density, in a known manner, using devices normally found on known knitting or hosiery machines. Advantageously, to further increase the run-resistance of the last row 1 of the product, each of the loops 2 of the last row is knitted with an additional adjacent loop 2a, as illustrated in particular in figure 2. In this way, a sort of knotting of the additional bushings 2a with the bushings 2 is obtained which safely excludes any possibility of slipping and therefore of unravelling of the bushings of the last row 1. Figures 3 to 6 illustrate, for purely indicative but not limitative purposes, the operational sequence in carrying out the process according to the invention on a circular knitting or hosiery machine equipped with needles 10 carried by the needle cylinder and hooks 11. Preferably, the hooks 11 are equipped with a double body, i.e. made up of two mutually adjacent plates which define between them, in an area of ​​the longitudinal development of the hook 11, a seat 11b which can be passed through by a needle 10. After the offset that brings the hooks 11 into correspondence with the needles 10, the hooks 11 are translated longitudinally in such a way as to bring the seats 11b into alignment with the needles 10 below. The additional loops 2a, once hooked by the tip of the needles 10, are drawn, as illustrated in figure 6, through the loops 2, which are thus knitted with the additional loops 2a. The product is then unloaded from the needles 10. In this way, the product illustrated in figure 2 is obtained. Alternatively, as illustrated in figures 7 and 8, the last row of stitches, indicated in these figures with the reference number 1a, can be made by knitting first loops 22 with a first group of needles alternating with second loops 23 made with a second group of needles, alternating with the needles of the first group of needles, and by making portions of intermediate stitches 22a, between the loops 22, and portions of intermediate stitches 23a, between the loops 23. Also in this case the portions of intermediate stitches 22a and 23a are made with an increased length so as to constitute additional loops. Suitably, the first bushings 22 are then knitted with the first additional bushings 22a, while the second bushings 23 are then knitted with the second additional bushings 23a, obtaining an article as illustrated in figure 8. In the execution variant illustrated in figure 9, the last knitting row, indicated with the reference number 1b, is made with two threads: a first thread 24, preferably elastic, and a second thread 25. In this case, the additional loops 26a are made only with the second thread 25 and the loops 26 of the last row, formed by the first thread 24 and the second thread 25, are knitted with the additional loops 26 made with the second thread 25. Thanks to the fact that the intermediate stitch portions of the last row have an increased length forming additional loops 2a, 22a, 23a, 26a and to the fact that the stitch loops 2, 22, 23, 26 of the last row are preferably knitted with the additional stitch loops 2a, 22a, 23a, 26a, a high resistance to unravelling is obtained, not only accidentally, but also in the presence of a sufficiently high tension applied to the yarn or yarns that make up this last row of stitches. It should be noted that the process according to the invention has been specifically designed to allow the production of stockings on single-cylinder circular hosiery machines using known processes, starting from the toe of the stocking rather than from the edge or cuff. These operations, with traditional techniques, necessarily leave the last row of stitch formed, corresponding to the upper end of the leg of the stocking, to be subjected to a subsequent sewing or linking operation to prevent it from unravelling. In practice, it has been found that the process according to the invention fully fulfills the intended purpose, since it allows the production of knitted articles with the last row presenting a high resistance against unravelling, thus avoiding the need to have to underS. tara Mediano Br. The process thus conceived is susceptible to numerous modifications and variations, all of which fall within the scope of the inventive concept; furthermore, all the details may be replaced with other technically equivalent elements. Claims

CLAIMS 1. Process for making the last row of a knitted article run-proof, characterised in that, in the execution of the last row of the article, the inter-knit portions, i.e. the portions of yarn or yarns that join two adjacent loops of knitting, are made with an increased length forming additional loops alternating with the loops of the last row of knitting.

2. Method, according to claim 1, characterised in that each of the loops of said last row is knitted with an additional adjacent mesh loop.

3. Method, according to claim 1, characterised in that the penultimate row of stitches is made with loops having a length shorter than the length of the loops of said last row of stitches.

4. Process, according to claim 1, characterised in that the penultimate knitting row is made with one or more pre-tensioned elastic yarns.

5. Method, according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that said last row of knitting is made by forming first loops by means of a first group of needles alternating with second loops formed with a second group of needles, alternating with the needles of said first group of needles, and in that said first loops are knitted with first additional loops, constituting the portions of inter-knitting connecting said first loops to each other, while said second loops are knitted with second additional loops constituting the portions of inter-knitting connecting said second loops to each other.

6. Method, according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterised in that said last row is made with two threads: a first thread and a second thread, and said additional loops are made only with said second thread and in that the loops of said last row, formed by said first and said second thread, are knitted with said additional loops made with said second thread.

7. Method, according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterised in that said first thread is constituted by an elastic thread.

8. Knitted product, characterised by the fact that, in the last knitted row of the product, the intermediate stitch portions, i.e. the portions of yarn or yarns that join two adjacent loops of stitch, have an increased length and form additional loops alternating with the loops of the last knitted row.

9. Knitted article, according to claim 8, characterised in that each of the loops of said last row is knitted with an additional contiguous loop.

11. Knitted article according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterised in that the penultimate row of stitches has loops having a length shorter than the length of the loops of said last row of stitches.

15. Product according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterised in that said first thread is made of an elastic thread.
