Sky Lantern

Abstract

(1) The sky lantern of this design has a double structure with a balloon float placed inside an LED light diffuser. (2) The outer LED light diffuser is made of paper or nonwoven fabric and has translucency, which moderately diffuses the light emitted by the LED inside below, making the whole lantern glow. (3) The inner balloon float is filled with helium gas or hydrogen gas, which is lighter than air, and has a body that swells into an approximately rectangular shape and a check valve at its bottom, forming a balloon that obtains buoyancy. (4) A battery-equipped LED lighting body is attached to the bottom of the balloon float, and the light emitted by the LED lighting body is diffused by the balloon float and the LED light diffuser, making it possible to observe it as a lantern light. (5) A string or cord is attached to the balloon float, and when the sky lantern is released into the air, it rises in the atmosphere and floats due to buoyancy. (6) The weight of the battery-powered LED lighting attached to the bottom of the balloon float keeps the sky lantern stable in the air with the bottom of the balloon float facing downwards. (7) Viewers look up from the bottom at the sky lantern rising in the air.
