Mirror for stoma appliance replacement

Abstract

This article is a mirror for ostomates (people with a stoma, such as an artificial anus or artificial bladder) to use when replacing a stoma appliance (a pouch for receiving feces and urine). When replacing the stoma appliance, the ostomate needs to align the hole of the appliance with the stoma on the abdomen and attach the appliance to the body, but it is particularly difficult to check the situation below. This article is a mirror that makes it easier to replace the stoma appliance by reflecting the stoma from below. As shown in the "Reference Diagram Showing the Names of Each Part", this article is composed of a belt and a mirror material. The ostomate wraps the belt around the thigh and wears it. The attachment and detachment of the belt to the thigh are done by a hook-and-loop fastener. By using the hook-and-loop fastener, people of any body type, whether thin or overweight, can use it. The mirror material is composed of a base part and a mirror body, and the base part of the mirror material is inserted into and held in the pocket of the belt. The mirror body is connected to the base part via a ball joint and can be adjusted in any direction and angle with respect to the base part, as shown in the "Reference Diagram Showing the Mirror Material". As shown in the "Reference Diagrams 1 and 2 Showing the Usage State", this article can be used when replacing the stoma appliance, whether in a standing position or a sitting position. By providing a mirror on the thigh, the stoma appliance can be replaced with both hands. Since the stoma appliance can be replaced appropriately, it is possible to prevent skin chafing due to the displacement of the appliance and reduce the number of replacements (and thus the replacement cost). Since the belt and the mirror material are detachable, each can be easily cleaned. If the dirt or damage to the belt becomes severe, only the belt can be replaced. In addition to replacing the stoma appliance, it can also be used to check hard-to-see areas such as the genitals and to apply medicine there.
