Gearbox for Railway Vehicles with Oil Level Gauge

Abstract

This item is a gearbox mounted on a railway vehicle, housing a pinion that transmits power from a main motor and a gear that meshes with the pinion via a press-fitted axle. It is equipped with an oil level gauge that allows the oil level to be monitored to maintain the appropriate amount of lubricating oil stored inside. Referring to the "Reference Enlarged Front View Showing the Condition of Use," the oil level gauge is composed of a transparent plate that covers an opening formed on the front of the gearbox, and a lid that covers the transparent plate. The lid is fixed to the gearbox with bolts. The lid has a long, narrow observation window that extends perpendicular to the horizontal (vertical direction). Notches are provided on both side edges of the observation window, and the upper and lower ends of each notch correspond to scales that serve as indicators for managing the height of the oil level (the two-dot chain line in the figure).
