Abstract

This article is an oxygenator used to replenish oxygen and remove carbon dioxide from a patient's blood during medical procedures such as cardiac surgery or for patients with severe respiratory failure. The article has a blood inlet through which blood flows and a blood outlet through which blood flows. Blood flowing through the oxygenator from the blood inlet passes through gas-permeable hollow fibers, and oxygen supplied to the fibers is transferred into the blood, while carbon dioxide is simultaneously removed from the blood. The gas-exchanged blood flows out from the blood outlet.
