Abstract

The article of the present design (hereinafter referred to as "the article") is an ice maker that makes cubic-shaped ice with spherically chamfered corners. The article includes a first ice tray and a second ice tray, each of which produces half of an ice cube in the shape of an approximately isosceles right-angled triangular prism, as if the cube were divided diagonally. The first and second ice trays of the article are each formed into a roughly rectangular cylindrical shape with a bottom, and include base parts whose bottoms overlap each other so that the first ice tray is placed inside the second ice tray when making cubic ice. The first and second ice trays also include ice-making holes recessed in the bottoms of the base parts of the first and second ice trays in directions away from each other, and which produce half of an ice cube in the shape of an approximately isosceles right-angled triangular prism at two longitudinal locations on the bottom of each base when the first and second ice trays are separated. This product allows two cubic ice cubes to be made longitudinally by overlapping the bottom surfaces of the base parts of the first and second ice trays so that the half ice cubes made in each tray, each of which is approximately isosceles right-angled triangular prism-shaped, are joined by adding a small amount of water between their mating surfaces. In addition, this product is provided with a first ice tray side flange piece that protrudes outward in the longitudinal direction from one diagonal position on one side of one short side and the other side of the other short side at the opening edge of the base part of the first ice tray, and a second ice tray side flange piece that protrudes outward in the longitudinal direction from the other diagonal position on the other side of one short side and one side of the other short side at the opening edge of the base part of the second ice tray, so that when two cubic ice cubes have been made, the first ice tray and second ice tray, which are stacked on top of each other, can be easily separated by moving the first ice tray side flange piece and the second ice tray side flange piece on one or the other short side away from each other.
