Abstract

These mittens are designed to prevent self-injurious behaviors such as self-removal of gastric tubes in nursing homes and other care facilities. Existing mittens that cover the entire hand constitute physical restraint, which is prohibited by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and they double the stress on residents and cause sweating of the fingers. These mittens prevent self-removal with minimal restriction of finger movement while also considering the discomfort of wearing them. The size can be adjusted using buttons.
