Abstract

To provide an immunogenic composition, a method for producing a vaccine, and a method for administering a vaccine.SOLUTION: An immunogenic composition comprises: (a) inactivated whole cells of one or more strains of C. difficile bacteria, or a cell surface extract (CSE) from one or more strains of C. difficile bacteria, and (b) at least one polypeptide comprising a toxoid or a non-toxic immunogenic polypeptide fragment of a C. difficile Toxin A or Toxin B, wherein the composition, when administered to a mammalian subject, is effective to elicit production of antibodies recognizing a wild type C. difficile and production of antibodies recognizing at least one C. difficile toxin that confers protection against C. difficile infection and / or reinfection (recurrence).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
