Abstract
A system for aiming a wirelessly powered laser beam at a receiver photovoltaic cell using an adjustable beam deflection unit that allows for precise orientation of the mirrors used to deflect the laser beam. Insufficient aiming accuracy can result in spillage of the beam energy into the surroundings that is intended to be absorbed by the photovoltaic cell. The accuracy and stability criteria required for the electronically controlled beam to be aimed at the mirror are such that the angular deviation of the beam from the direction intended by the electronic control must be such that the level of optical power transferred into the surroundings when the beam with the maximum power that the system is capable of transmitting is aimed at the target does not exceed the level allowed by regulatory requirements. One common regulation limits the allowed dissipated power to the power of a Class 3B laser.
