Abstract

To provide a maintenance method which can suppress problems caused by foams of a cleaning liquid even if the foams of the cleaning liquid adhere to a prescribed part in an ink jet printer.SOLUTION: A maintenance method comprises: a first supply step in which a cleaning liquid containing a surface active agent is supplied to a prescribed part 50 in an ink jet printer 100; and a second supply step in which a liquid containing a defoaming agent is supplied to the prescribed part 50 to which the cleaning liquid has been supplied. The liquid has a ratio of a defoaming distance to a foaming distance of 4.41% or more. The foaming distance is a first height of a foam generating when the cleaning liquid, which has been put in a bottle with an inner diameter of 38 mm and a capacity of 50 ml to a height of 20 mm, is stirred by a stirrer during one minute. The defoaming distance is a value obtained by subtracting a second height of the foam after the liquid of 1 ml is dropped into the bottle after generation of the foam from the first height of the foam.SELECTED DRAWING: None
