AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing light source devices for projectors that incorporate invisible light sources increase in size due to the addition of new optical components, leading to challenges in device configuration and efficiency.

Method used

A light source device comprising a first light source section for white light, a second light source section for invisible light, and a rotatably supported transmission optical element that reflects and transmits light, allowing for parallel scanning of white light while directing invisible light to the illuminated area without increasing device size.

Benefits of technology

The solution enables efficient scanning of white light within the illuminated area while ensuring invisible light is incident on the entire area, maintaining device compactness and enhancing display quality by suppressing brightness and contrast issues.

Abstract

To provide a compact light source device and a projector capable of illuminating an area to be irradiated with illumination light and invisible light.SOLUTION: The light source device includes: a first light source portion that emits illumination light; a second light source portion that emits invisible light; an optical member that transmits the illumination light and reflects the invisible light; and a first transmissive optical element having a first incident surface on which the illumination light is incident, a second incident surface on which the invisible light is incident, and a first emission surface from which the illumination light is emitted. The first incident surface and the first emission surface are parallel to each other, the first transmissive optical element has a cylindrical shape in which an inner surface and an outer surface are parallel to each other and rotates about a first rotation axis intersecting in an incident direction of the illumination light to the first transmissive optical element, and the optical member is disposed inside the first transmissive optical element and reflects the invisible light incident from the second incident surface to emit the invisible light from the first emission surface. The first transmissive optical element rotates about the first rotation axis to cause the invisible light to enter an area to be illuminated while causing the illumination light to be scanned in the area to be illuminated.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
