Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a sealing device. [Background technology]

[0002] A gasket is placed between two components to be joined, such as a case and a cover, and seals the two components. Examples of uses include sealing between an oil pan (case) used in an internal combustion engine and a cylinder block (cover) that covers the opening of the oil pan, or sealing the joints of various pipes. In either case, gaskets have an annular shape in order to seal two components.

[0003] However, when used to seal components with a relatively large surface area, such as oil pans, the gaskets also become larger, making them difficult to handle during the process from manufacturing to assembly. In addition, gaskets are manufactured by stamping out a single metal plate, and the material of the annular inner part becomes waste material, so the larger the gasket, the more undesirable it becomes in terms of both cost and the environment.

[0004] In view of this, a split gasket has been devised in which the gasket is split into a number of pieces that together form an annular shape.

[0005] Patent Document 1 discloses an example of a gasket that is applied to an oil pan gasket for an automobile engine (see paragraph 0014, Figure 1). This gasket is divided into two pieces (components 5a, 5b), and the two pieces are joined by laser spot welding (see paragraph 0015, Figures 2-3). After joining, the two pieces are pressurized and smoothed (see paragraph 0016, Figures 3, 7(a)(b)), and then an elastic body (rubber compound sheet 30) is adhesively fixed (see paragraph 0017, Figures 3, 6) to form a gasket (oil pan gasket 1).

[0006] In Patent Document 2, the gasket is divided into two pieces, a first divided piece (100A) and a second divided piece (100B), and the pieces are joined together to form the gasket (gasket 100) (see paragraphs 0020-0021 and Figures 1-2). The gasket differs from that described in Patent Document 1 in the method of joining the pieces and the method of fixing the elastic body to each piece.

[0007] In Patent Document 2, the two pieces that make up the gasket, i.e., the first split piece (100A) and the second split piece (100B), are fixed together by a liquid gasket (FIPG) (see paragraph 0020). Unlike Patent Document 1, they are not joined by laser spot welding.

[0008] In addition, the first divided piece (100A) and the second divided piece (100B) are made by punching rubber-coated metal (RCM), a metal plate with a rubber membrane on both sides (see paragraph 0022). Therefore, the elastic body is not fixed to the two pieces after joining, but is formed as a membrane on the two pieces in advance. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]

[0009] [Patent Document 1] JP 2007-155043 A [Patent Document 2] JP 2020-076467 A Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]

[0010] In both of the gaskets described in Patent Documents 1 and 2, pieces are joined together to produce an annular gasket, which is then placed between two components that are joined together. Therefore, when viewed as a sealing device in which a gasket is interposed between two components, a process of connecting the two pieces to produce the gasket is required prior to the process of joining the two components with the gasket in between, making the manufacturing process complicated. Improvements are needed.

[0011] An object of the present disclosure is to obtain a sealing device that can reduce the number of manufacturing steps and simplify the manufacturing process. [Means for solving the problem]

[0012] One embodiment of the sealing device comprises a metal split gasket divided into multiple pieces having flat sealing surfaces covered with an elastomer on both front and back sides, and having an overall annular shape, and two members joined to each other across the sealing surface of the split gasket, and at least one of the two members is provided in an area where the two pieces of the split gasket are adjacent to each other, and comprises a gasket joining portion having a recess at a position facing the sealing surfaces, and a liquid gasket filled in the gasket joining portion. Effect of the Invention

[0013] The number of steps required to manufacture the sealing device can be reduced, and manufacturing can be simplified. [Brief description of the drawings]

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0015] An embodiment of the sealing device will be described. The description items are as follows. [overview] [First embodiment] 1. Configuration (1) Split gasket (2) Gasket joint (3) Liquid gasket 2. Assembly of the sealing device 3. Effects 4. Variations [Second embodiment] 1. Configuration (1) Split gasket (2) Gasket joint (3) Liquid gasket 2. Assembly of the sealing device 3. Effects 4. Variations [Third embodiment] 1. Configuration (1) Split gasket (2) Gasket joint (3) Liquid gasket 2. Assembly of the sealing device 3. Effects 4. Variations

[0016] [overview] 1 and 4, the sealing device 11 of the present embodiment is composed of two members 51 (51A, 51B) joined to each other via a split gasket 31. The two members 51 are, for example, a case 51A and a cover 51B.

[0017] As an example, the sealing device 11 is used to seal between an oil pan and a cylinder block used in an internal combustion engine. In this case, the oil pan is the case 51A, and the cylinder block is the cover 51B. The case 51A is one of two members 51, has an oil reservoir 52 therein for storing oil (not shown), and has an opening 53 on the upper surface. The cover 51B is the other of the two members 51, and covers the opening 53 provided in the case 51A.

[0018] As another example, the sealing device 11 can be used to seal between a battery housing case that houses a battery for an electric vehicle and the lid of the battery housing case. In this case, the battery housing case is case 51A, and the lid of the battery housing case is cover 51B. Case 51A is one of two members 51, and the internal space indicated by reference numeral 52 is the battery housing space. The battery housing space has an entrance through an opening 53 on the top surface. Cover 51B is the other of the two members 51, and covers the opening 53 provided in case 51A.

[0019] [First embodiment] The first embodiment will be described with reference to FIGS.

[0020] 1. Configuration (1) Split gasket As shown in Figs. 1 and 4, split gasket 31 is split into two pieces P1 and P2 having flat sealing surfaces 33 covered with elastic body 32 on the front and back surfaces.

[0021] The individual pieces P1, P2 constituting the split gasket 31 are made of a metal material such as stainless steel, cold rolled steel sheet, galvanized steel sheet, aluminum alloy, etc., and are coated in advance with the elastic body 32, for example by coating.

[0022] The elastic body 32 is a rubber compound containing rubber as a main component. For example, at least one type of synthetic rubber among nitrile rubber, styrene butadiene rubber, fluororubber, acrylic rubber, and silicone rubber can be used as the material of the elastic body 32. The rubber compound using these materials may be foamed rubber.

[0023] The individual pieces P1, P2 constituting the split gasket 31 have their ends E1, E2 facing each other and are formed into an annular shape.

[0024] (2) Gasket joint As shown in Fig. 2, one member 51A of the two members 51 has a gasket joint 54 in a region where the two pieces P1, P2 of the split gasket 31 are adjacent to each other. In Fig. 2, the position where the gasket joint 54 is provided is indicated by a circle C.

[0025] The gasket joining portion 54 has a recess 55 at a position facing the sealing surface 33 of the split gasket 31. The gasket joining portion 54 provides the recess 55 with a pattern PT.

[0026] As shown in Figures 3(A) to (C), the pattern PT given to the recesses 55 is, for example, a lattice pattern. Figures 3(A) and (B) show a diagonal lattice pattern PT. Figure 3(C) shows a checkerboard lattice pattern PT. In either pattern PT, the recesses 55 are formed in elongated groove shapes, and divide the area of the gasket bonding portion 54 where the recesses 55 are not formed into a regular square (Figures 3(A) and (C)) or a diamond (Figure 3(B)).

[0027] As an example, the area of the square (FIGS. 3A and 3C) or diamond (FIG. 3B) region bounded by the recess 55 is 1 mm 2 That's all.

[0028] (3) Liquid gasket As shown in Fig. 4, the sealing device 11 fills the gasket joint portion 54 with a liquid gasket 71. The liquid gasket 71 is a gasket that uses one-liquid room temperature curing type silicone called FIPG (Formed In Place Gasket). The liquid gasket 71 is initially fluid and can be applied to each portion. When it reacts with moisture in the air, the liquid gasket 71 hardens.

[0029] Since the gasket joint portion 54 has a recess 55, the liquid gasket 71 filled in the gasket joint portion 54 penetrates into the recess 55 and into the gap between the ends E1, E2 of the adjacent pieces P1, P2. Although not shown in Fig. 4, the liquid gasket 71 also penetrates into the gap between the sealing surface 33 of the split gasket 31 and the case 51A, and between the sealing surface 33 and the cover 51B. The liquid gasket 71 that penetrates into and wraps around each portion in this way reacts with moisture in the air and hardens.

[0030] 2. Assembly of the sealing device To join two components 51 (51A, 51B) via split gasket 31, liquid gasket 71 is applied to gasket joint portion 54 provided on case 51A. If necessary, liquid gasket 71 is also applied to cover 51B at a position facing gasket joint portion 54.

[0031] In this state, pieces P1 and P2 of split gasket 31 are prepared and placed in predetermined positions on case 51A. Case 51A and cover 51B are then aligned so as to cover opening 53 of case 51A, and the two are joined together with split gasket 31 in between. This operation is performed at a stage before liquid gasket 71 hardens and maintains its fluidity.

[0032] Once the liquid gasket 71 has hardened, the sealing device 11 is completed.

[0033] 3. Effects The hardened liquid gasket 71 retains a certain degree of elasticity even after hardening, and maintains the case 51A and cover 51B in a joined state with the split gasket 31. At this time, in the sealing device 11, the elastic body 32 of the split gasket 31 sandwiched between the joined case 51A and cover 51B exerts a sealing effect. The hardened liquid gasket 71 also seals gaps that occur at the ends E1, E2 of the pieces P1, P2 of the split gasket 31. This seals the joined case 51A and cover 51B.

[0034] According to this embodiment, the process of joining two members 51 (51A, 51B) with split gasket 31 sandwiched therebetween and the process of connecting two pieces P1, P2 to manufacture split gasket 31 can be completed in a single process. This reduces the number of steps in manufacturing sealing device 11, and simplifies manufacturing.

[0035] According to this embodiment, gasket joining portion 54 has a pattern PT, for example a lattice pattern PT such as a diagonal lattice (FIGS. 3(A) and (B)) or a checkerboard lattice (FIG. 3(C)), in recess 55. As a result, gasket joining portion 54 can evenly join split gasket 31 and liquid gasket 71, producing a strong and stable sealing action.

[0036] According to this embodiment, since the elastic body 32 is coated on the seal surface 33, the seal surface 33 covered with the elastic body 32 can be easily obtained, and the manufacturing process can be simplified.

[0037] 4. Variations Various modifications and variations are possible when implementing the present invention.

[0038] 5, the gasket joint 54 may be provided on the cover 51B side instead of on the case 51A side. In this case, the seal surface 33 on the upper side of the split gasket 31 and the cover 51B are joined.

[0039] 6, gasket joint portion 54 may be provided on both case 51A and cover 51B. In this case, sealing surface 33 on the lower side of split gasket 31 is joined to case 51A, and sealing surface 33 on the upper side of split gasket 31 is joined to cover 51B.

[0040] As another example, a base treatment layer may be provided between the liquid gasket 71 and the sealing surfaces 33 of the pieces P1, P2 of the split gasket 31.

[0041] Any other variations or modifications are possible.

[0042] [Second embodiment] The second embodiment will be described with reference to Figures 7 to 18. The same parts as those in the first embodiment are indicated by the same reference numerals, and the description thereof will be omitted.

[0043] 1. Configuration (1) Split gasket 7, split gasket 31 is divided into eight pieces P1 to P8 and has a rectangular ring shape as a whole. Four of the eight pieces P1 to P8 are provided on the long and short sides, and four are provided at the corners.

[0044] 7 to 9, each of the pieces P1 to P8 of the split gasket 31 has bent portions 34 at adjacent ends E1 to E8. The bent portions 34 bend the ends E1 to E8 of each of the pieces P1 to P8 toward the gasket joint portion 54. In this embodiment, the gasket joint portion 54 is provided on the cover 51B side, and therefore the bent portions 34 are bent toward the cover 51B.

[0045] The degree of bending of the bent portion 34 is, for example, 90 degrees. However, in practice, the bent portion 34 does not necessarily need to be bent at an angle of 90 degrees, and may be, for example, 70 degrees, 80 degrees, 100 degrees, 110 degrees, etc.

[0046] In this embodiment, adjacent ends E1 to E8 of eight pieces P1 to P8 constituting split gasket 31 are paired. (a) End E1 of piece P1 and end E2 of piece P2 (b) End E2 of piece P2 and end E3 of piece P3 (c) End E3 of piece P3 and end E4 of piece P4 (d) End E4 of piece P4 and end E5 of piece P5 (e) End E5 of piece P5 and end E6 of piece P6 (f) End E6 of piece P6 and end E7 of piece P7 (g) End E7 of piece P7 and end E8 of piece P8 (h) End E8 of piece P8 and end E1 of piece P1 Thus, eight types of pairs of ends E1 to E8 are generated.

[0047] In contrast, in Figures 8 and 9, the pair in (a) is shown as a representative. The following explanation will also follow this example, using pieces P1 and P2 as an example. This is because the pair in (a) is merely used as a representative example for the sake of convenience. Illustrations and explanations of pairs (b) to (h) will be omitted, but the illustrations and explanations of the pair in (a) can be applied as is.

[0048] (2) Gasket joint 10 and 11, the gasket joint portion 54 is provided on the cover 51B side. The recess 55 of the gasket joint portion 54 has a groove shape.

[0049] Gasket joint portion 54 is disposed in an area where two pieces (e.g., pieces P1 and P2) are adjacent to each other among the multiple pieces P1 to P8 that make up split gasket 31. In this embodiment, there are eight areas where two pieces are adjacent to each other, and therefore eight gasket joint portions 54 are provided.

[0050] The recess 55 provided in the gasket joining portion 54 has a groove width and groove depth capable of receiving a pair of adjacent bent portions 34. Only one such recess 55 is provided in one gasket joining portion 54. However, in practice, two or more recesses 55 may be provided in one gasket joining portion 54. However, there should only be one recess 55 for receiving a pair of adjacent bent portions 34 per gasket joining portion 54.

[0051] (3) Liquid gasket As shown in Figs. 12 and 13, when the case 51A and the cover 51B are joined, a pair of bent portions 34 provided on the ends E1 and E2 of the pieces P1 and P2 of the split gasket 31 are inserted into the recesses 55 in pairs. At this time, the liquid gasket 71 is applied in advance to the recesses 55 provided on the cover 51B and the portion facing the recesses 55 on the case 51A side. The liquid gasket 71 filled in the gasket joint portion 54 enters into the recesses 55 and between the ends E1 and E2 of the pieces P1 and P2 adjacent to each other. It also flows between the sealing surface 33 of the split gasket 31 and the case 51A, and between the sealing surface 33 and the cover 51B. The liquid gasket 71 that has entered and flowed around each portion reacts with moisture in the air and hardens.

[0052] 2. Assembly of the sealing device To join two components 51 (51A, 51B) via split gasket 31, liquid gasket 71 is applied to gasket joint portion 54 provided on cover 51B. Liquid gasket 71 is applied so as to fill inside recess 55 of gasket joint portion 54. If necessary, liquid gasket 71 is also applied to case 51A at a position facing gasket joint portion 54.

[0053] In this state, each piece P1 to P8 of split gasket 31 is prepared and placed in a predetermined position on case 51A. Then, case 51A and cover 51B are aligned so as to cover opening 53 of case 51A, and the two are joined together with split gasket 31 in between. At this time, a pair of bent portions 34 provided on adjacent paired ends E1 to E8 of each piece P1 to P8 constituting split gasket 31 are inserted into recess 55 of gasket joining portion 54, and are inserted into liquid gasket 71 filled in recess 55. This operation is performed at a stage before liquid gasket 71 is hardened and maintains its fluidity.

[0054] Once the liquid gasket 71 has hardened, the sealing device 11 is completed.

[0055] 3. The hardened liquid gasket 71 also seals gaps that occur at the ends E1 to E8 of the pieces P1 to P8 of the split gasket 31. This seals the joined case 51A and cover 51B.

[0056] According to this embodiment, the process of joining two members 51 (51A, 51B) with split gasket 31 sandwiched therebetween and the process of connecting multiple pieces P1 to P8 to manufacture split gasket 31 can be completed in a single process. This reduces the number of steps in manufacturing sealing device 11, and simplifies manufacturing.

[0057] According to this embodiment, among the ends E1-E8 of the pieces P1-P8 constituting the split gasket 31, adjacent pairs of bent portions 34 are inserted into the recesses 55 and fixed with a liquid gasket 71. This makes it possible to firmly join the gasket joining portion 54 provided on the cover 51B to the individual pieces P1-P8. As a result, a strong and stable sealing action can be achieved.

[0058] 4. Variations Various modifications and variations are possible when implementing the present invention.

[0059] 14 to 16, for example, the gasket joint portion 54 may be provided on the case 51A side, rather than on the cover 51B side. In this case, the ends E1 to E8 of the individual pieces P1 to P8 are bent toward the case 51A to form bent portions 34.

[0060] 17 and 18, when joining case 51A and cover 51B via split gasket 31 to assemble sealing device 11, liquid gasket 71 is applied to gasket joint 54 provided on case 51A. Liquid gasket 71 is applied so as to fill recess 55 of gasket joint 54. If necessary, liquid gasket 71 is also applied to cover 51B at a position facing gasket joint 54.

[0061] In this state, each piece P1 to P8 of split gasket 31 is prepared and placed in a predetermined position on case 51A. Then, case 51A and cover 51B are aligned so as to cover opening 53 of case 51A, and the two are joined together with split gasket 31 in between. This operation is performed at a stage before liquid gasket 71 hardens and maintains its fluidity.

[0062] Once the liquid gasket 71 has hardened, the sealing device 11 is completed.

[0063] As another example, a base treatment layer may be provided between the liquid gasket 71 and the sealing surfaces 33 of the pieces P1 to P8 of the split gasket 31.

[0064] Any other variations or modifications are possible.

[0065] [Third embodiment] The third embodiment will be described with reference to Figures 19 to 30. The same parts as those in the first embodiment are designated by the same reference numerals, and the description thereof will be omitted.

[0066] 1. Configuration (1) Split gasket 19, split gasket 31 is divided into eight pieces P1 to P8 and has a rectangular ring shape as a whole. Four of the eight pieces P1 to P8 are provided on the long and short sides, and four are provided at the corners.

[0067] 19 to 21, each of the pieces P1 to P8 of the split gasket 31 has bent portions 34 at adjacent ends E1 to E8. The bent portions 34 are formed by bending the ends E1 to E8 of each of the pieces P1 to P8 toward the gasket joint portion 54. In this embodiment, the gasket joint portion 54 is provided on the cover 51B side, and therefore the bent portions 34 are bent toward the cover 51B.

[0068] The degree of bending of the bent portion 34 is, for example, 90 degrees. However, in practice, the bent portion 34 does not necessarily need to be bent at an angle of 90 degrees, and may be, for example, 70 degrees, 80 degrees, 100 degrees, 110 degrees, etc.

[0069] In this embodiment, adjacent ends E1 to E8 of eight pieces P1 to P8 constituting split gasket 31 are paired.

[0070] In contrast, in Figures 20 and 21, the pair in (a) is shown as a representative. The following explanation will also follow this example, using pieces P1 and P2 as an example. This is because the pair in (a) is merely a representative example for the sake of convenience. Illustrations and explanations of pairs (b) to (h) will be omitted, but the illustrations and explanations of the pair in (a) can be applied as is.

[0071] (2) Gasket joint 22 and 23, the gasket joint portion 54 is provided on the cover 51B side. The recess 55 of the gasket joint portion 54 has a hole shape.

[0072] Gasket joint portion 54 is disposed in an area where two pieces (e.g., pieces P1 and P2) are adjacent to each other among the multiple pieces P1 to P8 that make up split gasket 31. In this embodiment, there are eight areas where two pieces are adjacent to each other, and therefore eight gasket joint portions 54 are provided.

[0073] The recess 55 provided in the gasket joint portion 54 has a diameter and depth capable of receiving a pair of adjacent bent portions 34. Only one such recess 55 is provided in one gasket joint portion 54. However, in practice, two or more recesses 55 may be provided in one gasket joint portion 54. However, there is only one recess 55 for receiving a pair of adjacent bent portions 34 per one gasket joint portion 54.

[0074] (3) Liquid gasket As shown in Figs. 24 and 25, when the case 51A and the cover 51B are joined, a pair of bent portions 34 provided on the ends E1 and E2 of the pieces P1 and P2 of the split gasket 31 are inserted into the recesses 55 in pairs. At this time, the liquid gasket 71 is applied in advance to the recesses 55 provided on the cover 51B and the portion facing the recesses 55 on the case 51A side. The liquid gasket 71 filled in the gasket joint portion 54 enters the recesses 55 and between the ends E1 and E2 of the pieces P1 and P2 adjacent to each other. It also flows between the sealing surface 33 of the split gasket 31 and the case 51A, and between the sealing surface 33 and the cover 51B. The liquid gasket 71 that has entered and flowed around each portion reacts with moisture in the air and hardens.

[0076] In this state, each piece P1 to P8 of split gasket 31 is prepared and placed in a predetermined position on case 51A.

[0077] Once the liquid gasket 71 has hardened, the sealing device 11 is completed.

[0078] 3. The hardened liquid gasket 71 also seals gaps that occur at the ends E1 to E8 of the pieces P1 to P8 of the split gasket 31. This seals the joined case 51A and cover 51B.

[0079] According to this embodiment, the process of joining two members 51 (51A, 51B) with split gasket 31 sandwiched therebetween and the process of connecting multiple pieces P1 to P8 to manufacture split gasket 31 can be completed in a single process. This reduces the number of steps in manufacturing sealing device 11, and simplifies manufacturing.

[0080] According to this embodiment, among the ends E1-E8 of the pieces P1-P8 constituting the split gasket 31, adjacent pairs of bent portions 34 are inserted into the recesses 55 and fixed with a liquid gasket 71. This makes it possible to firmly join the gasket joining portion 54 provided on the cover 51B to the individual pieces P1-P8. As a result, a strong and stable sealing action can be achieved.

[0081] 4. Variations Various modifications and variations are possible when implementing the present invention.

[0082] 26 to 28, the gasket joint portion 54 may be provided on the case 51A side, rather than on the cover 51B side. In this case, the ends E1 to E8 of the individual pieces P1 to P8 are bent toward the case 51A to form bent portions 34.

[0083] 29 and 30, when joining case 51A and cover 51B via split gasket 31 to assemble sealing device 11, liquid gasket 71 is applied to gasket joint 54 provided on case 51A. Liquid gasket 71 is applied so as to fill recess 55 of gasket joint 54. If necessary, liquid gasket 71 is also applied to cover 51B at a position facing gasket joint 54.

[0084] In this state, each piece P1 to P8 of split gasket 31 is prepared and placed in a predetermined position on case 51A. Then, case 51A and cover 51B are aligned so as to cover opening 53 of case 51A, and the two are joined together with split gasket 31 in between. This operation is performed at a stage before liquid gasket 71 hardens and maintains its fluidity.

[0085] Once the liquid gasket 71 has hardened, the sealing device 11 is completed.

[0086] As another example, a base treatment layer may be provided between the liquid gasket 71 and the sealing surfaces 33 of the pieces P1 to P8 of the split gasket 31.

[0087] Any other variations or modifications are possible. [Explanation of symbols]
