AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Conventional valve-type writing instruments face challenges such as the inability to use soft pen leads and difficulty in controlling the amount of liquid discharged, leading to sudden ink flow issues.

Method used

A writing instrument design featuring a valve mechanism with a spring-biased valve that opens when the shaft tube is pressed, incorporating a narrow liquid passage and a separate air flow path to control ink flow and prevent sudden discharge.

Benefits of technology

The design effectively prevents sudden ink flow and allows for controlled ink discharge by generating flow resistance through the narrow liquid passage and ensuring smooth air replacement, even when the ink flow path is narrow.

Abstract

To prevent rapid liquid leakage by a writing instrument with a valve opened by pressing a barrel.SOLUTION: A writing instrument includes a barrel that has an ink storage portion, a writing tip end, and a valve mechanism that opens in conjunction with the pressing of a side surface of the barrel. The valve mechanism has a valve holding member, a valve that in internally inserted in the valve holding member and can move in a fore-and-aft direction, a spring holding member that is inserted in a rear end inner part of the valve holding member, and a spring that is interposed between the spring holding member and the valve. If the valve is energized backward, a space between the spring holding member and the valve is blocked, and if the valve compresses the spring in conjunction with the pressing of the side surface of the barrel to open the space between the spring holding member and the valve, ink passes through a liquid path between an inner surface of the spring holding member and an outer surface of the valve, between the tip end of the valve and the spring holding member, and between an inner surface of the valve and the spring holding member, and passes through the inside of the spring holding member to reach the writing tip end.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 15
