Abstract
To provide, as a laser-based transmission system, a wireless transmission system that ensures that unsafe beam exposure is avoided even if enclosure of a wireless power transmitter is damaged.SOLUTION: A transmitter enclosure includes a window 802 that allows a high power beam 800a to exit the transmitter. The window includes a window area 802a that reflects at least a portion of the beam and directs the reflected beam to a beam arrival detector 803 to determine if the window is unbroken. If the detector receives a sufficient portion of the beam, it indicates an unbroken window, which advantageously prevents dangerous beam-generating damage that occurs if an exit window of the transmitter is damaged. The laser beam is preferably circularly polarized by a quarter wave plate 806 before exiting the transmitter to prevent dangerous laser damage caused by reflection of the maximum of P or S polarization components that can occur with a linearly polarized beam.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8A-8B
