AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing 5G NR systems face challenges in efficiently managing downlink control channel monitoring due to varying use cases and deployment scenarios, requiring optimized PDCCH monitoring to balance performance and power consumption.

Method used

Implementing a user equipment (UE) with a processing circuit that utilizes two parallel timers to control downlink control channel monitoring, where a first timer limits the maximum monitoring time and a second timer adjusts monitoring based on channel occupancy, optimizing power usage and efficiency.

Benefits of technology

Enhances PDCCH monitoring by reducing unnecessary power consumption and improving system performance in diverse 5G NR scenarios, ensuring timely information retrieval while conserving battery life.

Abstract

To provide an integrated circuit that executes improved procedures for monitoring a downlink control channel.SOLUTION: User equipment (UE) comprises processing circuitry which operates a function that involves monitoring of a downlink control channel of an unlicensed radio cell for information intended for the UE. The radio cell operating in an unlicensed spectrum is controlled by a base station. The processing circuitry and a receiver perform the monitoring of the downlink control channel based on a first timer and a second timer operated in parallel. The first timer is used to limit the maximum time when the downlink control channel is to be monitored, by starting the first timer at the beginning of the monitoring and stopping the monitoring upon expiry of the timer. The second timer is used to stop the monitoring earlier than the first timer depending on the channel occupation status of the unlicensed spectrum by the base station.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 11
