Abstract

To provide a processing method of a gypsum-containing material which allows SO2 gas to be efficiently obtained from gypsum.SOLUTION: A processing method of a gypsum-containing material includes: a mixing process for obtaining a mixed raw material by mixing at least a gypsum-containing material and a first decomposition promoting material containing carbon; and a heating process for applying heat decomposition to at least a part of the gypsum in the gypsum-containing material by calcining the mixed raw material to generate an SO2 gas and a residue. A gypsum decomposition rate in the heating process is 15% or higher, and a content of calcium sulfide in the residue is 10 mass% or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
