Abstract

To provide an on-vehicle device which limits operation of an on-vehicle device while a driver drives and can be safely operated by a passenger, and a method for controlling the on-vehicle device.SOLUTION: A navigation device 10 includes a contact detection information acquisition part 34 for acquiring contact detection information which detects that a driver's hand touches a driving operation device, a traveling dangerous state determination part 37 for determining whether the periphery of a traveling own vehicle is in a traveling dangerous state, and an operation reception control part 38 for making operation inputted by a passenger of the own vehicle receivable in the case that the periphery of the own vehicle is determined not to be in a traveling dangerous state and that both hands of a driver are detected to be brought into contact with the driving operation device, and invalidating the reception of the inputted operation in the case that the periphery of the own vehicle is determined to be in a traveling dangerous state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
