Abstract
A brake disc with a nickel-free steel layer and a method for manufacturing the brake disc. The brake disc (1) for a disc brake consists of a brake band (2) made of grey cast iron or steel and has two opposing braking surfaces (2a, 2b), each of which defines at least a part of the two main faces of the disc (1). The disc brake comprises a base layer (30) made of steel that is completely free of nickel, covering at least one of the two braking surfaces (2a, 2b) of the brake band. Furthermore, the steel of the base layer (30) is composed of 10% to 15% chromium (Cr), at most 1% silicon (Si), at most 4% manganese (Mn), 0.16% to 0.5% carbon (C), and the remainder iron (Fe).
