Home compostable pods for beverage preparation

Abstract

The present invention relates to a home compostable pod 100, 1000 for preparing beverages in a beverage production machine. The pod comprises a pod body 110 composed of two connected half shells 101, 102 that delimit a chamber 103 for containing a substance 105 for the beverage. The pod comprises an injection wall 120 into which a fluid for preparing the beverage is injected. The pod comprises a delivery wall 130 for dispensing the prepared beverage from the pod during beverage preparation. The delivery wall is connected to the pod body and adapted to interact with an opening element of the beverage production machine to be opened under the effect of the increased pressure of the injected fluid. The delivery wall has a multi-layer structure 300 including at least one primary layer 310 made of a cellulosic material 311 or a regenerated cellulose material 312 and a secondary layer 320 with oxygen barrier function. The primary layer is made of parchment paper or a compostable biopolymer.
