AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing filtering devices for liquid plastics face challenges in maintaining constant system pressure during screen replacement and backflushing operations, leading to pressure fluctuations and potential product quality issues.

Method used

The implementation of a filtering device with a screen carrier that includes a throttle recess, allowing for a variable flow section between the cavity and the fluid outlet channel, which is adjusted based on the position of the throttle recess relative to the fluid outlet channel, thereby controlling the acceleration of the melt and maintaining system pressure.

Benefits of technology

This solution effectively maintains constant system pressure during screen replacement and backflushing, reducing pressure fluctuations and ensuring stable product quality by allowing for gentle acceleration of the melt and precise control of flow sections.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a filtration device (2) for filtering fluids, particularly liquid plastics, comprising a housing (4) having a receptacle (6) for receiving a screen support (8), a fluid inlet channel (10) and a fluid outlet channel (12), the screen support (8) being movably received within the receptacle (6) along a longitudinal axis (26), the screen support having a screen support inlet (16), a screen support outlet (18) and a cavity (20) for receiving a filter element (22), the cavity (20) being connected in fluid communication with the screen support inlet (16) and the screen support outlet (18), the screen support (8) being movable from a screen replacement position (S) to a filtering position (F) via an air vent region (E). According to the invention, it is proposed that the screen support (8) has a throttle notch (24) arranged adjacent to the screen support outlet (18) and in fluid communication with the cavity (20), the throttle notch (24) opening a variable flow cross section (30) between the cavity (20) and the fluid outlet channel (12) in a manner dependent on the position of the throttle notch (24) relative to the fluid outlet channel (12) in the vent position area (E).
