Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for shredding a lithium battery. In a shredding compartment chamber, the lithium battery is shredded and rapidly cooled with a shredding liquid to safely discharge the battery, generating shredded battery residues and a liquid containing organic compounds and lithium compounds. At least a part of the liquid is separated from the shredded battery residues to obtain a separated liquid containing a low flash point solvent and a high flash point solvent. By removing at least a part of the low flash point solvent in the recycled shredding liquid and / or increasing the concentration of the high flash point solvent to raise the flash point of the recycled shredding liquid compared to the shredding liquid in the shredding compartment chamber, a recycled shredding liquid is generated from the separated liquid. The recycled shredding liquid is supplied to the shredding compartment chamber to replace at least a part of the shredding liquid.
