A plurality of superconducting filaments

Abstract

A method (100) for forming a plurality of filaments (242) is presented, where each filament is a superconductor. The method includes providing a substrate (230), the substrate having a first side (231) and a second side (232), the substrate including a plurality of grooves (234) on the first side of the substrate; applying (108) a coating (238) on the substrate (230), the coating including a superconducting material, and for each groove of the plurality of grooves, a first portion of the coating on the first side of the groove feature is separated from a second portion of the coating on the second side of the groove feature, the second side of the groove feature being opposite the first side of the groove feature; removing (112) the substrate from the second side, removing at least a portion of the substrate to remove at least the connection from the first portion of the coating to the second portion of the coating through the substrate.
