Ferroelectric smectic liquid crystal medium

Abstract

A ferroelectric smectic liquid crystal medium is provided. 【Solution means】The novel LC medium exhibits a new spontaneous, self-supporting ferroelectric smectic phase. These typically contain one or more dielectrically neutral aromatic compounds as further described herein in a highly polar host mixture typical of ferroelectric nematic mixtures. The mixtures are useful for electro-optical, electronics, electromechanical and other applications for materials having a very high dielectric constant. Further, the present invention relates to a liquid crystal device, an electrical and electronic element containing the liquid crystal medium according to the present invention.
