[0015] In another embodiment, the crystalline polymorph according to the present invention can have a melting point in the range of 153 - 156 °C (peak position), preferably in the range of 154 - 155 °C (peak position). This melting point is obtained using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) with a heating rate of 10 °C / minute.

[0016] In connection with the present invention, a polymorph is a particular crystalline form of a compound that can exist in two or more crystalline forms in the solid state. The crystalline form of a compound includes constituent molecules arranged in an orderly repeating pattern that extends in all three spatial dimensions (in contrast, an amorphous solid has no long-range order within the positions of the molecules). Different polymorphs of a compound have different arrangements of atoms and / or molecules in their crystal structures. When the compound is a biologically active compound such as a fungicide, the differences in crystal structure can result in different polymorphs with different chemical, physical, and biological properties. Properties that can be affected include crystal shape, density, hardness, color, chemical stability, melting point, hygroscopicity, suspension ability, dissolution rate, and bioavailability. Thus, a particular polymorph can have properties that are more advantageous for a particular use compared to another polymorph of the same compound. In particular, the physical, chemical, and biological properties listed above can have a significant impact on the development of manufacturing methods and formulation, especially on a manufacturing scale; the ease of combining the compound with other active ingredients and formulation components in a formulation; and / or the quality and effectiveness of a plant attractant such as a fungicide. It is noted that it is not possible to predict whether the solid state of a compound can exist as two or more polymorphs, nor to predict the properties of any of these crystalline forms.

[0017] The assay of the solid phase for the presence of crystals can be carried out by conventional methods known in the art. For example, it is convenient and usual to use powder X-ray diffraction techniques. Other techniques that can be used include differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), near-infrared spectroscopy, mid-infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), gas chromatography or high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Single crystal X-ray diffraction is particularly useful for identifying crystal structures.

[0018] Another object of the present invention is a method for preparing a crystalline polymorph of a compound of formula I, comprising the following steps: i. mixing an industrial compound of formula I with an organic solvent at a temperature of at least 30 °C, more preferably at least 40 °C, to obtain a saturated solution of the industrial compound of formula I; ii. optionally, filtering the mixture obtained in step i; iii. crystallizing the compound obtained in step ii at a temperature below 30 °C, preferably at most 25 °C, to obtain a suspension; and iv. storing the suspension obtained in step iii at a temperature below 30 °C, preferably at most 25 °C, preferably for at least 2 hours, preferably for at least 4 hours, preferably for at least 10 hours, preferably for at least 15 days, more preferably for at least 30 days, to obtain a crystalline polymorph of the compound of formula I.

[0019] The industrial compound of formula I is a racemic mixture of a compound of formula I (3-difluoromethyl-1-methyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylic acid (9-dichloromethylene-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1,4-methanonaphthalen-5-yl)-amide) having a purity of at least 98%, more preferably at least 99%, prepared as described in Example P11 of International Publication No. WO 2012 / 101139.

[0020] The organic solvent can be selected from xylene, isopropyl alcohol, chlorobenzene, acetone, methylcyclohexane, ethyl acetate, methanol, acetonitrile and any mixture thereof.

[0021] In step i, a saturated solution means that the solute (the compound of formula I) can no longer be dissolved in the solvent.

[0022] In step ii, the filtration step can help remove all remaining solid particles, such as undissolved solids, crystals, and / or dust. This optional step can limit or prevent nucleation points during the preparation method.

[0023] Step iv can advantageously be carried out with stirring, preferably with continuous stirring. The stirring can be gentle stirring, more specifically a constant gentle stirring. In the present invention, gentle stirring means stirring sufficient to suspend the solids.

[0024] After step iv, a filtration step v of the storage suspension can be carried out to isolate the crystals produced in step iv from their solvent and use them as solid seeds.

[0025] The polymorphs of the present invention can be applied in their as - is form, but more preferably can be incorporated into pesticidal compositions by conventional means. Accordingly, a further object of the present invention relates to a pesticidal composition comprising the crystalline polymorph defined by the present invention and at least one agriculturally acceptable carrier or diluent. The pesticidal composition containing the crystalline polymorph of the present invention can be used for controlling phytopathogenic fungi in several plant species.

[0026] Another object of the present invention relates to a method for preventing or controlling fungal infections on plants or plant propagation materials, which comprises treating the plants or plant propagation materials with the pesticidal composition, preferably with a fungicidally effective amount of the pesticidal composition.

[0027] The term "plant" refers to all physical parts of a plant, including seeds, seedlings, saplings, roots, tubers, stems, petioles, foliage, and fruits.

[0028] The term "plant propagation material" represents all the reproductive parts of plants such as seeds that can be used for their propagation, and is understood to represent vegetative plant material such as cuttings. Plant propagation materials include seeds (in the strict sense), roots, fruits, tubers, bulbs, rhizomes, and parts of plants. Also included are germinated plants and young shoots that are to be transplanted after germination or after emerging from the soil. These young shoots can be protected by complete or partial treatment by immersion before transplantation. The plant propagation material can be treated with the composition of the present invention before the material is sown or planted. Alternatively, the plant propagation material may be treated with the composition of the present invention during sowing or planting. Further, the composition of the present invention may be applied to previously treated propagation material before or during its planting. The composition of the present invention can be applied during the sowing of seeds. The composition can also be used for plant propagation materials derived from plants cultivated in a greenhouse and / or during transplantation.

[0029] More preferably, the plant propagation material is a seed. Seed treatment may be carried out on the seeds before sowing, and the term "seeds before sowing" means seeds during any period from the harvest of the seeds to the sowing of the seeds into the soil for the purpose of germination and plant growth. Treatment of the seeds before sowing does not mean an act of applying the composition to the soil, but includes any application act targeting the seeds during the sowing / planting process. The treated plant propagation material of the present invention can be treated in the same manner as conventional plant propagation materials. The treated propagation material can be stored, handled, sown, and cultivated in the same manner as other pesticide-treated materials.

[0030] The pesticidal composition of the present invention can be used, for example, to control phytopathogenic fungi belonging to the following classes: Ascomycetes (e.g., Venturia, Podosphaera, Erysiphe, Monilinia, Mycosphaerella, Uncinula); Basidiomycetes (e.g., Hemileia, Rhizoctonia, Phakopsora, Puccinia, Ustilago, Tilletia); Fungi imperfecti (also known as Deuteromycetes; e.g., Botrytis, Helminthosporium, Rhynchosporium, Fusarium, Septoria, Cercospora, Alternaria, Pyricularia, and Pseudocercosporella); Oomycetes (e.g., Phytophthora, Peronospora, Pseudoperonospora, Albugo, Bremia, Pythium, Pseudosclerospora, Plasmopara).

[0031] The pesticidal composition of the present invention is suitable for controlling such diseases in many plants and their propagation materials, including but not limited to the following target crops: cereals (wheat, barley, rye, oats, maize (including maize, popcorn, and sweet corn), rice, sorghum and related crops); beet (sugar beet and fodder beet); leguminous plants (beans, lentils, peas, soybeans); oil plants (rape, mustard, sunflower); cucurbitaceous plants (marrow, cucumber, melon); fiber plants (cotton, flax, hemp, jute); vegetables (spinach, lettuce, asparagus, cabbage, carrot, eggplant, onion, pepper, tomato, potato, paprika, okra); plantation crops (banana, fruit trees, rubber tree, forest land), ornamental plants (flowers, shrubs, broad-leaved and evergreen trees, for example conifers, etc.); and other plants, for example, grape, bushberry (such as blueberry, etc.), dogberry, cranberry, peppermint, rhubarb, spearmint, sugarcane and turfgrass, for example, but not limited to these, turfgrass in the cool season (for example, bluegrass (Poa L.), for example, Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.), rough bluegrass (Poa trivialis L.), Canada bluegrass (Poa compressa L.), and annual bluegrass (Poa annua L.), etc.; bentgrass (Agrostis L.), for example creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris Huds.), colonial bentgrass (Agrostis tenius Sibth.), velvet bentgrass (Agrostis canina L.), and redtop (Agrostis alba L.); fescue (Festuca L.), for example tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.), meadow fescue (Festuca elatior L.) and fine fescues, such as creeping red fescue (Festuca rubra L.), chewing fescue (Festuca rubra var. commutata Gaud.), sheep fescue (Festuca ovina L.), and hard fescue (Festuca longifolia); and ryegrass (Lolium L.), such as perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) and annual (Italian) ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) and warm-season turfgrasses (e.g., Bermudagrass (Cynodon L.C.Rich), e.g., hybrid and common Bermudagrass; zoysiagrass (Zoysia Willd.), St. Augustinegrass (Stenotaphrum secundatum (Walt.) [0032] Furthermore, "crop" should be understood to include crops that are resistant to pests and pesticides, including herbicides or classes of herbicides, as a result of conventional methods of breeding or genetic engineering. For example, resistance to a herbicide means being less susceptible to damage caused by a particular herbicide compared to conventional crop varieties. [0037] The rate of application of the agrochemical composition of the present invention is determined by factors such as the specific type of fungus to be controlled, the degree of control required, and the timing and method of application, and can be easily determined by those skilled in the art. Generally, the composition of the present invention can be applied at a rate of 0.005 kilograms per hectare (kg / ha) to about 5.0 kg / ha, based on the total amount of the active fungicide in the composition. A rate of about 0.1 kg / ha to about 1.5 kg / ha is preferred, and a rate of about 0.3 kg / ha to 0.8 kg / ha is particularly preferred.

[0038] In practice, the pesticidal composition containing the polymorph of the present invention is applied as a formulation containing various adjuvants and carriers known or used in the art. Thus, they can be formulated as controlled release forms such as granules, wettable powders, emulsifiable concentrates, suspension concentrates (including oil dispersions), dusts or powders, flowables, solutions, suspensions or emulsions, suspoemulsions or microcapsules. Suitably, the pesticidal composition of the present invention can be formulated as a suspension concentrate, suspoemulsion, emulsion concentrate or wet granulate. These formulations are described in more detail below and can contain from about 0.5% to about 95% or more of the active ingredient in polymorphic form. The optimum amount depends on the formulation of the phytopathogenic fungus to be controlled, the application equipment and the nature thereof.

[0039] Wettable powders are in the form of micronized particles that are easily dispersed in water or other liquid carriers. The particles contain the active ingredient held in a solid matrix. Typical solid matrices include fuller's earth, kaolin clay, silica, and other hygroscopic organic or inorganic solids. Wettable powders usually contain about 5% to about 95% by weight of the active ingredient and small amounts of wetting agents, dispersing agents, or emulsifiers.

[0040] Emulsifiable concentrates are homogeneous liquid compositions that are dispersible in water or other liquids and can consist only of the active compound and a liquid or solid emulsifier, or can also contain a liquid carrier such as xylene, high-boiling aromatic naphtha, isophorone, and other non-volatile organic solvents. In use, these concentrates are dispersed in water or other liquids and are usually applied as a spray to the area to be treated. The amount by weight of the active ingredient can range from about 0.5% to about 95% of the concentrate.

[0041] Suspension concentrates are formulations in which micronized solid particles of the active compound are stably suspended. The solid particles may be suspended in an aqueous solution or in oil (as an oil dispersion). Such formulations contain anti-settling agents and dispersing agents and may further contain wetting agents, defoaming agents, and crystal growth inhibitors to enhance activity. In use, these concentrates are diluted in water and are usually applied as a spray to the area to be treated. The amount by weight of the active ingredient can range from about 0.5% to about 95% of the concentrate.

[0042] The granular preparations contain both extrudates and relatively coarse particles and can be applied, for example, without the need for control of phytopathogenic fungi before application or without dilution in areas to be dispersed in the spray tank. Typical carriers for the granular formulations include sand, fuller's earth, attapulgite clay, bentonite clay, montmorillonite clay, vermiculite, perlite, calcium carbonate, bricks, pumice, phyllosilicate, kaolin, dolomite, gypsum, wood flour, ground corn cobs, ground peanut hulls, sugar, sodium chloride, sodium sulfate, sodium silicate, sodium borate, magnesia, mica, iron oxide, zinc oxide, titanium oxide, antimony oxide, cryolite, gypsum, diatomaceous earth, calcium sulfate and other organic or inorganic materials which can absorb the active compound or be coated with the active compound. Granular preparations for use without dilution usually contain from about 5% to about 25% by weight of the active ingredient, which may include heavy aromatic naphtha, kerosene and other petroleum fractions, or vegetable oils; and / or surfactants such as dextrin, adhesives or synthetic resins as adhesives. When the granules are to be dispersed in the spray tank before application, the active ingredient content can be increased up to 80% by weight.

[0043] Dusts are free-flowing mixtures of the active ingredient with micronized solids such as talc, clay, powders and other organic and inorganic solids which act as dispersants and carriers.

[0044] Microcapsules are typically droplets or granules of an active ingredient encapsulated in an inert, porous shell that allows the encapsulated material to be released to the surroundings at a controlled rate. Encapsulated droplets typically have a diameter of about 1 to about 50 microns. The encapsulated liquid typically constitutes about 50 to 95% of the weight of the capsule and may contain a solvent in addition to the active compound. Encapsulated granules are generally porous granules having a porous membrane that seals the pore openings of the granules to retain the active species in liquid form within the pores of the granules. The granules typically range in diameter from 1 millimeter to 1 centimeter, preferably from 1 to 2 millimeters. The granules are formed by extrusion, aggregation or prilling, or are natural. Examples of such materials are vermiculite, fired clay, kaolin, attapulgite clay, sawdust and granular carbon. Shell or membrane materials include natural and synthetic rubbers, cellulosic materials, styrene-butadiene copolymers, polyacrylonitrile, polyacrylate, polyester, polyamide, polyureas, polyurethanes and starch xanthates.

[0045] Other useful formulations for pesticidal applications include merely solutions of the active ingredient in a solvent that completely dissolves at the desired concentration, such as acetone, alkylated naphthalenes, xylene and other organic solvents. Pressurized sprayers in which the active ingredient is dispersed in a micronized form as a result of the evaporation of a low-boiling dispersant solvent carrier may also be used.

[0046] Many of the above formulations contain wetting agents, dispersing agents or emulsifying agents. Examples are alkyl sulfonates and alkyl aryl sulfonates and sulfates and their salts, polyhydric alcohols; polyethoxylated alcohols, esters and fatty amines. These agents, when used, usually constitute 0.1% to 40% (by weight) of the formulation.

[0047] Suitable agricultural adjuvants and carriers useful for formulating the compositions of the present invention of the above formulation types are well known to those skilled in the art. Suitable examples of different classes are found in the following non-limiting list.

[0048] Liquid carriers that can be used include water and any solvent in which the polymorph has no solubility or limited solubility, such as toluene, xylene, petroleum naphtha, crop oil, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, cyclohexanone, acetic anhydride, acetonitrile, acetophenone, amyl acetate, 2-butanone, chlorobenzene, cyclohexane, cyclohexanol, alkyl acetate, diacetone alcohol, 1,2-dichloropropane, diethanolamine, p-diethylbenzene, diethylene glycol, diethylene glycol abietate, diethylene glycol butyl ether, diethylene glycol ethyl ether, diethylene glycol methyl ether, N,N-dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, 1,4-dioxane, dipropylene glycol, dipropylene glycol methyl ether, dipropylene glycol dibenzoate, dipropitol, alkyl pyrrolidinone, ethyl acetate, 2-ethylhexanol, ethylene carbonate, 1,1,1-Trichloroethane, 2-heptanone, d-limonene, ethylene glycol, ethylene glycol butyl ether, ethylene glycol methyl ether, gamma-butyrolactone, glycerol, glycerol diacetate, glycerol monoacetate, glycerol triacetate, hexadecane, hexylene glycol, isoamyl acetate, isobornyl acetate, isooctane, isophorone, isopropylbenzene, isopropyl myristate, lactic acid, laurylamine, mesityl oxide, methoxypropanol, methyl isoamyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, methyl laurate, methyl octanoate, methyl oleate, methylene chloride, m-xylene, n-hexane, n-octylamine, octadecanoic acid, octylamine acetate, oleic acid, oleylamine, o-xylene, phenol, polyethylene glycol (PEG400), propionic acid, propylene glycol, propylene glycol monomethyl ether, p-xylene, toluene, triethyl phosphate, triethylene glycol, xylene sulfonic acid, paraffin, mineral oil, trichloroethylene, perchloroethylene, ethyl acetate, amyl acetate, butyl acetate, methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, and amyl alcohol, tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol, hexanol, octanol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, glycerin, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone and other high molecular weight alcohols may be mentioned. The surfactant can be anionic, cationic, nonionic or polymeric in nature and can be used as an emulsifier, wetting agent, suspending agent or for other purposes. Typical surfactants include alkyl sulfates such as diethanolammonium lauryl sulfate; alkylaryl sulfonates such as calcium dodecylbenzenesulfonate; alkylphenol-alkylene oxide adducts such as nonylphenol-C.sub.18 ethoxylate; alcohol-alkylene oxide adducts such as tridecyl alcohol-C.sub.16 ethoxylate; soaps such as sodium stearate; alkylnaphthalene sulfonates such as sodium dibutylnaphthalenesulfonate; dialkyl esters of sulfosuccinate such as sodium di(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate; sorbitol esters such as sorbitol oleate; quaternary amines such as lauryltrimethylammonium chloride; polyethylene glycol esters of fatty acids such as polyethylene glycol stearate; block copolymers of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide; and salts of mono- and dialkyl phosphate esters.

[0051] Other adjuvants commonly used in agricultural compositions include crystallization inhibitors, viscosity modifiers, suspending agents, spray droplet regulators, pigments, antioxidants, foaming agents, defoaming agents, light blockers, solubilizers, sequestering agents, neutralizing agents and buffers, corrosion inhibitors, dyes, odorants, spreading agents, penetration aids, micronutrients, conditioners, lubricants and sticking agents.

[0052] Each of the above formulations can be prepared as a package containing a fungicide together with other components of the formulation (diluent, emulsifier, surfactant, etc.). The formulation can also be prepared by the tank mix method, where the components are obtained separately and combined at the grower's site.

[0053] These formulations can be applied, by conventional methods, to the areas where control is desired. For example, dusts and liquid compositions can be applied by the use of power dusters, brooms, hand-held sprayers and spray dusters. The formulations can also be applied as dusts or sprays from airplanes or by wick application. Both solid and liquid formulations can also be applied to the soil in the habitat of the plants to be treated, allowing the active ingredient to penetrate the plants through the roots. The formulations of the present invention can also be used for film coating application on plant propagation materials, achieving protection against fungal infections on plant propagation materials and against phytopathogenic fungi occurring in the soil. Preferably, the active ingredient can be applied to the plant propagation materials, especially seeds, so as to be protected by impregnating them with a fungicidal liquid formulation or coating them with a solid formulation. In special cases, other types of application, for example, specific treatment of plant cuttings or twigs that serve for propagation are also possible.

[0054] Suitably, the agrochemical compositions and formulations of the present invention are applied before the occurrence of the disease. The rates and frequencies of use of the formulations are those conventionally used in the art and are determined by the risk of infestation by fungal pathogens.

[0055] The compositions and formulations of the present invention can also be used in combination with other active ingredients (Compound II), such as other fungicides and / or insecticides and / or acaricides and / or nematicides and / or mollusks and / or biological agents and / or plant growth regulators. Such mixtures, and the use of such mixtures for controlling weeds and / or unwanted plant growth, form a further aspect of the present invention.

MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION

[0102] Examples 1. Preparation of Polymorph The industrial compound of Formula I used for the preparation of the polymorph according to the present invention is a racemic mixture of a compound of Formula I (3-difluoromethyl-1-methyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylic acid (9-dichloromethylene-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1,4-methanonaphthalen-5-yl)-amide) with a purity of 99.0%, prepared as described in Example P11 of International Publication No. 2012 / 101139.

[0103] Xylene (580 g) was added to a 1000 mL jacketed crystallization vessel, and the stirring speed was set to 100 rpm and heated to 40 °C. The industrial compound of formula I (30 g) was added slowly, and the mixture was stirred at 40 °C for 30 minutes until only a small amount of solid remained (indicating that saturation had been achieved). The mixture was then heated to 45 °C to dissolve it completely and filtered at a high temperature (45 °C) into four preheated glass bottles, each equipped with a magnetic stirrer, through a preheated funnel equipped with a paper filter (type 1). While stirring the solution, more specifically while gently (magnetically) stirring, it was slowly cooled to room temperature (20 °C), and the resulting suspension was maintained at room temperature for 4 weeks while stirring, more specifically while gently (magnetically) stirring. The suspension was filtered, and the solid was analyzed to confirm the formation of the desired polymorph (form B) according to the present invention.

[0104] 2. Analysis of Polymorphs After preparation by the method detailed above, the sample was subjected to analysis by powder X-ray diffraction, and / or single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and / or differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and / or near-infrared spectroscopy, and / or mid-infrared spectroscopy.

[0105] Powder X-ray diffraction analysis of the solid material was performed using a Bruker D2 Phaser powder diffractometer at room temperature (20 °C) and a relative humidity of more than 40%. The sample was attached to a standard PMMA sample holder and flattened. The sample holder was rotated, and X-rays were collected from 3.5 to 44° 2θ with a step size of 0.02°, and incident X-rays with a wavelength of 1.5406 Å were collected. The powder X-ray diffraction pattern of the crystalline polymorph (form B) according to the present invention is shown in Figure 1, and the powder X-ray diffraction pattern of the crystalline polymorph (form A) according to the prior art is shown in Figure 6.

[0106] Single crystal strength data were collected on a Rigaku Supernova diffractometer equipped with a graphite monochromator using CuKα radiation (λ = 1.54056 Å). For data collection, the crystal was mounted in NVH oil at -173 °C. The data were solved using the CRYSTALS software package and the results are summarized in Table 2 (unit cell parameters). The X-ray diffraction pattern calculated from the unit cell parameters of the crystal polymorph (Form B) is shown in Figure 2.

[0107] DSC was performed using a Mettler Toledo DSC1 with a standard 40 μL aluminum sample holder with a pierced lid (to allow the escape of gases formed during heating of the sample) at a heating rate of 10 °C / min from 30 to 200 °C. The DSC trace of the crystal polymorph (Form B) according to the present invention is shown in Figure 3.

[0108] Near-infrared spectroscopy was performed on a Bruker MPA1 spectrometer at room temperature (25 °C) using an integrating sphere from 3,500 to 12,500 cm -1 The sample (as received) was transferred to a glass vial. Sufficient sample was used to ensure that all light sources were reflected back to the detector. The near-infrared spectra of the crystal polymorph (Form B) according to the present invention and the crystal polymorph (Form A) according to the prior art are shown in Figure 4.

[0109] Mid-infrared spectroscopy was performed on a Bruker Alpha II spectrometer from 400 to 4,000 cm without sample preparation. Alpha II (FTIR) has an anvil head that presses the sample against a diamond window for analysis. The mid-infrared spectra of the crystal polymorph (Form B) according to the present invention and the crystal polymorph (Form A) according to the prior art are shown in Figure 5. -1

[0110] 3. Experiments To demonstrate the advantages of the crystal polymorphs according to the present invention, the following experiments were conducted.

[0111] 3.1. Seed Formation Solid seed B was prepared according to the polymorph preparation of the present invention described above (see item "1. Preparation of polymorphs").

[0112] The powder X-ray diffraction pattern is shown in Figure 6, and solid seed A was prepared according to International Publication No. 2012 / 101139 (Example P11), which is related to anhydrous Form 1 described in International Publication No. 2015 / 128322. The solid seed A (i.e., anhydrous Form 1) can also be prepared according to International Publication No. 2011 / 131544 (step f of the preparation example), International Publication No. 2011 / 131545 (step g of the preparation example), International Publication No. 2011 / 131546 (step d of the preparation example), or the specification of US Patent Application Publication No. 2012 / 136162 (Example P6 or Example P7).

[0113] 3.2. Seed Process Xylene (774 g) and the industrial compound of formula I (125 g) were added to a 1000 ml jacketed vessel equipped with an anchor stirrer (stirring speed: 150 rpm) and heated to 75 °C until all solids were dissolved.

[0114] After cooling the solution to 50 °C (seed temperature), solid seed B (2.0 g) or solid seed A (2.0 g) was added. The suspension was held at 50 °C for 60 minutes and then cooled to 0 °C over 20 hours (a linear cooling gradient from 50 °C to 0 °C over 20 hours). For specific cake resistance measurement, the suspension was discharged into a filtration unit.

[0115] 3.3. Filtration Experiment In the first part, the suspension was charged into a filtration unit equipped with a 20 μm polytetrafluoroethylene filter with a diameter of 5 cm. The device was pressurized (+0.5 barg gauge (barg)) and filtration was started. When the surface of the cake was exposed, filtration was terminated, the filtrate was refilled into the container and cooled to 0 °C. In the second part, filtration was subsequently repeated at a pressure of +0.5 barg. The final product was dried under vacuum (1 - 10 mbar) at 57 °C to obtain polymorph B or A.

[0116] Regarding filtration, the first run establishes a cake on the filter and enables the evaluation of the resistance of the filter medium (cloth). Subsequent runs enable the calculation of a specific cake resistance. The required data are pressure, filtrate viscosity (0.75 mPa·s), the amount of filtrate collected over time, and the final cake height after filtration.

[0117] The following Tables 3 and 4 summarize the results obtained for the second part of each experiment in which the specific cake resistance is calculated. More specifically, Table 3 (Example 1) is according to the present invention (crystals of Form B), the cake height is 0.100 m, and Table 4 (Example 2) is a comparative example (crystals of Form A), the cake height is 0.199 m. All experiments are carried out in the same manner except for the solid (B or A) used.
